Title: Learning structured neural dynamics from single-trial population recordings Abstract: To understand the complex nonlinear dynamics of neural circuits, we fit a structured state-space model to noisy high-dimensional neural time series. We consider a multi-scale hierarchical generative model for the state-space dynamics to provide human understanding of complex dynamics as hierarchical composition of locally linear dynamical systems. We use Bayesian inference methods and an initialization strategy for both the posterior state trajectory and the posterior dynamics. The expressive power and interpretability of the inferred dynamics are evaluated for neural computation systems. The talk will be based on these papers: Nassar, J., Linderman, S. W., Bugallo, M. & Park, I. M. Tree-Structured Recurrent Switching Linear Dynamical Systems for Multi-Scale Modeling. ICLR 2019. Nassar, J., Linderman, S., Zhao, Y., Bugallo, M. & Park, I. M. He will focus on a new extension that can deceive deep convolutional networks and human observers in the visual domain. Please find the main paper here. Also, the original paper that introduced adversarial networks is available here. Wikipedia has also a very brief overview. It is recommended that you check out those references in advance.
