Critical and Acute Illness Recovery Engagement (CAIRE) Clinic The road to recovery for survivors of acute illness is often long and difficult. At the time of being discharged from the hospital, survivors of acute illness often still experience real and profound impairments. Montefiore’s Critical and Acute Illness Recovery Engagement (CAIRE) clinic is available to help survivors of serious illness navigate their recovery. Any adult (≥ 18 years old) patient who was recently discharged from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after a serious illness and is struggling with new or worsening impairments in their physical, cognitive or emotional health may be eligible for a referral to this clinic. CAIRE’s mission is to identify medical, social, emotional, and physical impairments to generate an integrated plan of care for each patient. Our clinicians work closely with multiple specialists -including pulmonology, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, neuropsychology – to tailor an individualized plan of care.
