Professional Interests
Jessica Kahn, MD MPH is professor of Pediatrics and Dr. Ernest Baden Chair in Head and Neck Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She serves as Senior Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research and as Director of the Block Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Kahn received an MD from Harvard Medical School and MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital then joined Cincinnati Children’s and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. At Cincinnati Children’s, she served as the Associate Chair of Academic Affairs and Career Development and as the Rauh Chair and Director of the Division of Adolescent and Transition Medicine. She also served as director of the KL2 Scholars Program and co-director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training, the University of Cincinnati’s Clinical and Translational Science Award. Her clinical practice focused on young women’s health, mental health disorders, and chronic conditions in adolescents and young adults. She joined Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2024 to serve in the Dean’s office and as director of the ICTR, Montefiore Einstein’s Clinical and Translational Science Award.
Dr. Kahn is a clinical investigator whose long-term research objective is to reduce morbidity and mortality due to cervical cancer and other diseases related to human papillomavirus (HPV). Her research program focuses on primary and secondary prevention of HPV-related diseases through technologies such as Pap testing, HPV DNA testing, and HPV vaccines. Studies have characterized attitudes about HPV vaccination among adolescents, parents, and clinicians; predictors of clinician recommendations and adolescent uptake of HPV vaccines; epidemiology and risk factors for HPV in adolescents; acceptability and accuracy of HPV DNA self-testing in adolescents; impact of HPV vaccination on sexual attitudes and behaviors; immunogenicity and safety of HPV vaccines in young women and men living with HIV; the epidemiologic impact of HPV vaccine introduction in communities; and the use of technologies to improve HPV vaccine uptake. Her research has been funded by the NIH for almost 25 years and by the World Health Organization, foundations, and industry. Her work has resulted in more than 200 publications. She has served on leadership groups for the U01-funded Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions, as PI of a grant program that funded U.S. projects designed to improve adolescent vaccination, and as facilitator of a global HPV vaccine community of practice funded by the World Health Organization.
She has served on a number of national and international committees, including as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, as a consultant for the National Academy of Sciences, on the National Vaccine Advisory Committee’s HPV Working Group, on CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices working groups, on the World Health Organization’s HPV Vaccine Advisory Committee, and as chair of the International Pediatric Association’s HPV vaccine subgroup. She is an elected member of the Academic Pediatric Society and received the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine’s Outstanding Achievement in Adolescent Health and Medicine award in 2024.
