Professional Interests

Dr. Corchado is one of the Instructional Designers in the Educational Innovations Team directed by Dr. Helen Rhim. As part of the Office of Medical Education, they design and/or redesign courses and curriculum. They use the resources of subject experts to test and develop their material before proposing it to learners.

Dr. Corchado is an honors graduate from the University of Salamanca in Spain. Her thesis dissertation work in Audiovisual Communication about self-presence in social virtual worlds and her subsequent education and experiences have given her extensive knowledge and skills in new technologies and virtual environments.

 

Dr. Corchado has worked in Academia since 1993, initially focusing on teaching Communication courses to undergraduate students at universities in Puerto Rico. Since 2011, she has concentrated mainly on Distance Learning, reinforced by her Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning from New Mexico State University. In addition to online applications and techniques, Dr. Corchado uses flipped classroom, gamification and other instructional approaches to enhance face-to-face courses and to deliver engaging online educational programs.
