<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'Verdana',sans-serif; color: black;"><span style="caret-color: #000000; text-size-adjust: auto;">Dr. Shivani Agarwal, MD, MPH is a practicing adult endocrinologist, Associate Professor of Medicine-Endocrinology, Associate Director of the Fleischer Institute for Diabetes and Metabolism, Director of the Supporting Emerging Adults with Diabetes (</span><a style="color: #0078d7; text-size-adjust: auto;" title="https://www.montefiore.org/sead" href="https://www.montefiore.org/sead">SEAD</a><span style="caret-color: #000000; text-size-adjust: auto;">) program, and Director of Type 1 Diabetes programs, and Director of the Pilot and Feasibility Program of the NY-CDTR at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. </span></span></p>

Her work focuses on the impact of social determinants of health on diabetes, type 1 diabetes technology, and tests new models of healthcare redesign to address unmet social, psychological, and medical needs. She has expertise in health service redesigns, clinical trials, mixed methods evaluation, human-centered design methodology, and quality improvement.</span></span></p>

<p>Shivani Agarwal, MD, MPH, is Director of the <span class="comment-text">SEAD (<a href="sead">Supporting Emerging Adults with Diabetes</a>) program </span>at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining the Montefiore team in 2018, her clinical focus has been on the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in patients aged 18 to 35 years old.</p><p>In 2001, Dr. Agarwal received her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience at Wellesley College. From 2005 to 2010, she attended New York University School of Medicine where she received her Doctor of Medicine. During this time, Dr. Agarwal also attended Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health pursuing her Master of Public Health degree, which she received in 2009.</p><p>Dr. Agarwal began her postgraduate training in 2010 with a yearlong internship in Internal Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She continued to train at this institution and completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 2013. Following this, in 2015, Dr. Agarwal completed a fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship in 2016.</p><p>Extending from her clinical focus, Dr. Agarwal’s research concentrates on clinical and behavioral interventions in young adults with type 1 diabetes. Her work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, and books. She has received several awards by the Helmsley Charitable Trust for her research and is an active member of the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange and SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Consortium. She was also awarded the University of Pennsylvania Edward Rose Faculty Teaching Award in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Agarwal is board certified in Internal Medicine and Adult Endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Physicians, the American Diabetes Association, and the Endocrine Society.
