<p>Dr. Simon Rego is a licensed clinical psychologist with 25 years of experience in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based psychological treatments. He is currently Chief of Psychology and Director of Psychology Training at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.</p>
<p>Dr. Rego is Board Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, Certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy by the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies, and Certified as a Cognitive Therapy Trainer/Consultant by the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and a Clinical Fellow of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.</p>
<p>Dr. Rego is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. He is also a Founding Member of the New York City Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association, and was the Founding President of the Cognitive Therapy Special Interest Group of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.</p>
<p>Dr. Rego's specialties include the assessment and treatment of anxiety, stress, and obsessive-compulsive related disorders (Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, and Phobias), as well as depression, insomnia, and body focused repetitive behaviors (compulsive hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting, etc.) using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or other evidence-based psychological treatments.</p>
<p>Dr. Rego has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters (see below), completed his first book ("Treatment Plans and Interventions for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder") in 2016, a second book ("The 10-Step Depression Relief Workbook: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Approach") in 2018, and a third book ('The CBT Workbook for Mental Health") in 2021. His fourth book ("Advances in Psychotherapy: Evidence Based Practice - Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia") is due out in 2024.</p>
<p>Dr. Rego is currently an Editorial Board Member of the <em>American Journal of Psychotherapy</em>, <em>Cognitive &amp; Behavioral Practice</em>, and the <em>Journal of Psychiatry, Psychology &amp; Psychotherapy</em>. He is a former Editor of <em>Advances in Cognitive Therapy</em>, a joint publication of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and the International Association of Cognitive Psychotherapy as well as <em>Trauma Psychology News</em>, a publication of the Division of Trauma Psychology (Division 56) of the American Psychological Association.</p>

<p>Simon A. Rego, PsyD, ABPP, A-CBT, is Chief Psychologist at Montefiore and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical interests focus on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and mood disorders, as well as obsessive-compulsive and stress-related disorders in adults.</p><p>In 1994, Dr. Rego received his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in psychology from Queen&rsquo;s University in Kingston, Ontario. He received his Master of Arts in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York in 1996. He then attended Rutgers University, earning his Master of Psychology in clinical psychology in 1999, followed by his Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology in 2001. From 2001-2003, he completed his first two years of postdoctoral training at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania, and from 2002 to 2003, he completed MBA preparation certificate courses at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.</p><p>Dr. Rego&rsquo;s research interests focus on the application of CBT and other evidence-based therapies to various psychological disorders, including anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, mood, and stress-related disorders; insomnia and other sleep disorders; and body-focused repetitive behaviors such as trichotillomania. His work has been in many peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and he has presented at conferences nationally and internationally. He co-authored <em>The 10-Step Depression Relief Workbook: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Approach</em>, which has been published in English, German, Polish, and Russian.</p><p>Dr. Rego has been recognized for his many contributions to the medical community. In 2018, he received the Jerilyn Ross Clinician Advocate Award from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. In 2017, he was awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, an award recognizing those who demonstrate leadership, excellence and longevity within their chosen profession. In addition to being a founding clinical fellow of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and a fellow of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, he is board certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and a member of many other professional organizations, including the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies and the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Foundation.</p>

<p>Dr. Carol A. Bernstein is Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Wellbeing in the Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women's Health at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is also a consultant and Senior Scholar for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). She was previously Vice Chair for Education and Director of Residency Training in Psychiatry at NYU. From 2001-2011, Dr. Bernstein also served as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and the Designated Institutional Official for ACGME accredited training programs at NYU. Dr. Bernstein is a Past-President of the American Psychiatric Association and served the Association as Vice-President, Treasurer and Trustee-at-Large and as the chair of multiple committees. She has served as a spokesperson for the American Psychiatric Association on many occasions and received the 1997 exemplary psychiatrist award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). She is the recipient of the APA/NIMH Vestermark Award in Psychiatric Education and the APA Alexandra Symonds Award for contributions to the advancement of women in leadership and in women&rsquo;s health. In 2018, Dr. Bewnstein received a special Presidential commendation from the APA for her work in educating the public about mental illness through her role on Sirius/XM Doctor Radio. In 2019, she received the John Gienapp Award for notable contributions to Graduate Medical Education from the ACGME and the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Psychiatrists.<br />Dr. Bernstein completed medical school at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Following an internship in internal medicine at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Medical Center in New York, she completed her psychiatric residency training at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Bernstein is active in many national psychiatric associations in addition to the APA - these include the American College of Psychiatrists where she is currently the Treasurer of the Board of Regents, the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, among others. In 2003, Dr. Bernstein was selected as a Fellow in ELAM (Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine) a national program, designed to promote leadership for women in medicine. In 2005, Dr. Bernstein completed the Physician Leadership Development Program at NYU as well as the Graduate Medical Education Leadership Program of the ACGME. From 2010-2016, Dr. Bernstein served on the Board of Directors of the ACGME where she co-chaired the ACGME Task Force on Physician Well Being. She is also a member of the Action Collaborative on Clinician Wellbeing and Resilience of the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Bernstein has written numerous articles and chapters on psychiatric education and has served as a peer reviewer for both the American Journal of Psychiatry and Academic Psychiatry. She has served on the editorial boards of Academic Psychiatry, the Journal of Psychiatric Services and Focus, has presented at more than 80 conferences and meetings and has been the recipient of a number of visiting professorships. For more than ten years, Dr. Bernstein hosted a weekly call-in show for consumers on Sirius Radio&rsquo;s Doctor Radio Channel sponsored by the NYU Langone Medical Center.</p>

<p>Jonathan E. Alpert MD PhD is the Dorothy and Marty Silverman University Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Pediatrics. His academic interests include innovative treatments for difficult to treat mood disorders, childhood onset depression, depression comorbid with other medical illnesses, drug-drug interactions, behavioral health integration, ethical issues in the conduct of human studies, and medical education.</p>
<p>Dr. Alpert graduated from Yale College summa cum laude with majors in Psychology and Philosophy. He received his MD from Yale and his PhD in Behavioral Pharmacology from the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Cambridge where he was a Marshall Scholar. He completed residency training in Pediatrics at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital and in Psychiatry at McLean Hospital. He joined Einstein/Montefiore after 24 years at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he was Director of the Depression Clinical and Research Program and Associate Chief of Psychiatry responsible for outpatient, inpatient and emergency services. He was the first incumbent of the Joyce R. Tedlow Chair in the Field of Depression Studies at Harvard Medical School.</p>
<p>Dr. Alpert served on the Board of the National Network of Depression Centers and the PCORI MoodNetwork Executive Steering Committee and was founding chair of the Research and Scholarship Committee for the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education. He is chair of the American Psychiatric Association's Council on Research. Dr. Alpert is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Society of Biological Psychiatry, and American Association for Chairs of Departments of Psychiatry. The author of over 225 publications, Dr. Alpert has received numerous recognitions for teaching, mentorship and service from Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Partners HealthCare, American Psychiatric Association, and Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.</p>

Biography

<p>Jonathan Edward Alpert, MD, PhD, is Dorothy and Marty Silverman Chair, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Alpert&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on the evaluation and treatment of complex mood and anxiety disorders.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts at Yale College in 1977, Dr. Alpert earned his Doctor of Medicine at Yale University in 1986. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in behavioral pharmacology at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England, in 1987 on a Marshall Scholarship. Dr. Alpert completed residency training in pediatrics at the Boston Children's Hospital in 1989. He then completed his psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital in 1992, where he was Chief Resident in psychopharmacology in his final year. He then held faculty and leadership roles at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School through 2017.</p><p>Dr. Alpert&rsquo;s research focuses on the treatment and biomarkers related to major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. He has been principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous funded research projects and his work has been published in many peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Alpert serves on the editorial board of several psychiatry journals and has over 240 publications. He has also given many national and international invited presentations.</p><p>Dr. Alpert is a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, the American College of Psychiatrists, the Association of Chairs of Departments of Psychiatry, the Society of Biological Psychiatry and the Anxiety and Depression Association, among others. He chairs the Council on Research of the APA. Dr. Alpert has received teaching, mentorship and service awards from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Partners HealthCare, Harvard Medical School, the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Psychiatric Association.</p>
