<p>William M. Buerger, PsyD, is Clinical Director, DBT-A Program at Montefiore Einstein and Instructor, Child Outpatient Psychiatry at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Buerger specializes in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and empirically supported trauma treatments. He also provides cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and prolonged-exposure (PE). Dr. Buerger has trained psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and school personnel in these therapies and related principles.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Gettysburg College in 2011, Dr. Buerger earned his Doctor of Psychology at Rutgers University in 2018. He completed a predoctoral intervention at VA Connecticut Healthcare System the same year. Following this, Dr. Buerger completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants, LLP in 2019.</p><p>Dr. Buerger's research focuses on the active mechanisms, dissemination and adaptation of empirically supported treatments, particularly targeting trauma and suicidality. He has published articles and book chapters, and presented at national psychology conferences.</p><p>Dr. Buerger is board certified in DBT, PE and CPT. He is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), the International Society for the Improvement and Teaching of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (ISITDBT) and the American Psychological Association (APA).</p>
Kahlil C. DuPerry
<p>Kahlil C. DuPerry, PhD, is an attending psychologist at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. DuPerry's clinical work is person-centered, relational and culturally adaptive. He primarily works with patients in a time-limited fashion to increase the use of adaptive coping strategies, help activate support networks and decrease stigma related to seeking mental health care.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Michigan in 2015, Dr. DuPerry earned his Doctor of Philosophy in counseling psychology in 2022 from Boston College. The same year, Dr. DuPerry completed a psychology internship at Montefiore Einstein and remained here to complete a psychology fellowship in 2023.</p><p>Dr. DuPerry's research primarily focuses on race and culture, as well as masculinity, with a particular interest in identity development.</p><p>Dr. DuPerry is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) Society of Counseling Psychology.</p>

<p>Elyssa A. Scharaga, PhD, is Associate Director, Neuropsychological Assessment Services at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Scharaga’s clinical practice includes the evaluation and treatment of individuals diagnosed with neurological, medical and psychiatric conditions across the lifespan, such as neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, traumatic brain injuries, infectious diseases and movement disorders.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from The George Washington University in 2009, Dr. Scharaga earned her Master of Arts in clinical psychology at Yeshiva University in 2013. She then earned her Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology with a health emphasis at the same institution in 2016. In 2016, she completed an internship in neuropsychology at the Northport Veteran Affairs Medical Center. She completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in geriatric neuropsychology from the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Scharaga's research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neurocognitive disorders due to chronic medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease and infectious diseases. Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed publications, and she has shared her work at international and national conferences.</p><p>Dr. Scharaga is a licensed psychologist and member of several professional societies, including the InternationalNeuropsychological Society and the American Psychological Association Division 40, where she is an Education Advisory Committee Member.</p>
