Biography

<p>John Bent, MD, is Program Director, Pediatric Otolaryngology&ndash;Head &amp; Neck Surgery and Professor, Otolaryngology&ndash;Head &amp; Neck Surgery and Pediatrics at Montefiore-Einstein. His clinical focus is on all aspects of pediatric otolaryngology.</p><p>In 1989, Dr. Bent graduated from Wake Forest School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship in general surgery in 1990. He completed his otolaryngology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1994, followed by a yearlong pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the University of Iowa.</p><p>Dr. Bent&rsquo;s research focus is in minimally invasive surgery in children with ear, nose and throat disorders and innovations in resident education. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, of which recent subjects include intracapsular tonsillectomy, laryngomalacia, and resident education. In 2006, he wrote a successful thesis that led to his acceptance to the prestigious Triological Society. He has presented his work at national and regional meetings, and has won many national research awards, including from the American Broncho-Esophalogical Association and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. In addition to publishing his research in many peer-reviewed journals, he reviews scientific manuscripts for six different otolaryngology journals and is on the Editorial Board of the <em>Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology</em>.</p><p>Dr. Bent received Einstein&rsquo;s Teacher of the Year Award in the Department of Otolaryngology&ndash;Head &amp; Neck Surgery in 2010. He has been annually named among Best Doctors in America since 2005, Castle Connolly Top Metro Area Doctors since 2009 and New York Super Doctors since 2012. He belongs to numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Otolaryngology&ndash;Head and Neck Surgery, the Society for Ear, Nose &amp; Throat Advances in Children and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Dr. Bent earned board certification by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Otolaryngology.</p>
