Housestaff Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion This Committee exists to build community across self-identified underrepresented minority residents and fellows. We understand the fundamental importance of connecting through shared experiences as minoritized people and firmly believe in the principles of unity and solidarity among ourselves, across departments, and within our communities. We seek to expand our vision through the following pillars: Mentorship: We define mentorship as a bidirectional entity. We seek to fully support the activities and missions of the local Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) chapter, the local Student National Medical Association (SNMA) chapter, and other student affinity organizations. We seek to be enriched by the leadership and mentorship of URM faculty through activities related to professional development and networking. Community: We believe community exists among ourselves as internal medicine trainees, across departments and subspecialties, and within the Bronx and greater New York City area. We aim to build meaningful relationships with our underrepresented colleagues across training programs at Montefiore, and work collectively on the recruitment, retention, and expansion of underrepresented residents and fellows. Advocacy and Activism. We believe our duty as physicians is to our patients. We dedicate ourselves to centering the narratives and experiences of our patients, and understand the power in shared identity between provider and patient.
