Special Enrollment
Early Decision
Applicants who are certain that Einstein is their first-choice school and whose qualifications, both academic and non-cognitive are outstanding, are encouraged to apply as early decision applicants. As such they may apply only to Einstein.
Applications for early decision must be submitted to AMCAS by August 1. All supporting documentation and letters of recommendation must be submitted no later than August 15. MCATS should be taken no later than July 15 prior to making application. An interview is required of all applicants under serious consideration for admission.
Applicants may make an appointment to speak with the Financial Aid Office by contacting stufin@einsteinmed.edu.
All applicants will be notified of the decision of the Committee on Admissions by October 1. Successful students must accept the position offered. Students who are not accepted to the Early Decision Program will be considered with the regular applicant pool and may make application to any other medical school.
The official Einstein policy document can be found here.
Deferred Enrollment
Students who would like to defer their enrollment for a period of one year may petition the Committee on Admissions, in writing. Such requests may be considered only if during the deferral year the student will be involved either in completing coursework leading to a degree, a specified research project, or a clinical activity in which he/she will receive a better understanding and appreciation for the delivery of healthcare. No other proposals qualify for deferral.
Requests for deferral are considered only if accompanied by a letter from the Project Director that is addressed to the Committee on Admissions and sent to:
Noreen Kerrigan
Associate Dean of Admissions
Albert Einstein College of Medicine
1300 Morris Park Avenue
Bronx, New York 10461
Students who are granted a deferral must apply as "early decision" candidates in the summer, immediately following the granting of their deferral (and not later than July 15) and are not eligible to apply elsewhere. Acceptance is guaranteed. Applicants must remit a $100 non-refundable deposit upon confirmation of their deferral status and must relinquish all other places they may be holding at other medical schools, including other deferrals.
Requests for deferral are not considered after April 30, even if a letter of acceptance is awarded after then.
The official Einstein policy document concerning deferred enrollment can be found here.
Transfer Inquiries
Albert Einstein College of Medicine does not accept applications for transfer.
Applicants who have been enrolled in an allied health profession school must apply as first-year applicants.
The official Einstein policy document concerning student transfers can be found here.
Non Traditional Applicants
Several colleges and universities offer postbaccalaureate premedical programs to applicants who require more skill in the basic sciences or who are in the process of deciding whether a career in medicine is appropriate for them. Some are designed for individuals who are looking to make a career change and have not yet completed the science courses required for application to medical school. Other programs are tailored to applicants who have taken requisite courses but wish to improve their existing academic record. And some are designed to assist individuals from groups currently underrepresented in medicine or from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Advanced Placement
Formal advanced placement credit, granted by examination in an area of required undergraduate course work, is acceptable to satisfy that particular requirement.
However, it is strongly recommended that applicants who receive AP credit in Biology, complete advanced level course work in that subject.
Examples of advanced courses are: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Physiology and Microbiology.
