Laurie E. Hirsh, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Site Director of Orthopedic Surgery at NYC Health and Hospitals/North Central Bronx Hospital, and an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at NYC Health and Hospitals/ Jacobi Medical Center. She is experienced in orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery of the upper extremity utilizing minimally invasive, arthroscopic, open and microsurgical techniques. Her clinical interests include distal radius fractures, hand trauma, nerve compression syndromes and tendonitis of the hand and upper extremity.
Dr. Hirsh graduated Cum Laude from Tufts University with a double major in psychology and political science, while completing her premed course requirements. She obtained her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After graduating, she completed an Orthopedic residency at Montefiore Medical Center and served as Chief Resident. Subsequently, she became a fellow in Hand and Upper Extremity at the University of Pennsylvania. After working in private practice in Philadelphia and New York City as a specialist in hand and upper extremity surgery, in 2010, Dr. Hirsh returned to her hometown to become an affiliate of the program where she trained. She enjoys working with the local community to treat traumatic and athletic injuries and nerve compression syndromes.
While maintaining a clinical surgical practice, Dr. Hirsh continues to train residents and has contributed to an orthopedic textbook as well as clinical studies involving wrist trauma and treatment of ligamentous injuries of the wrist. Dr. Hirsh participates in multiple administrative committees and is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
