<p>Saikiran Murthy, DO, is a neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor, Leo M. Davidoff Department of Neurosurgery at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Murthy specializes in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders including chronic back pain, degenerative disk disease, spinal trauma, spinal tumors, cervical myelopathy, spondylotic arthropathy, spondylolisthesis and thoracolumbar deformity. His clinical interests also include robotic spinal surgery, computer navigation assisted spinal surgery and general neurosurgery.</p><p>Dr. Murthy brings a unique background as he is dually trained in neurology and neurosurgery. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001 at New York University, he attended Boston University School of Medicine, earning his Master of Arts in medical sciences in 2005. He then attended New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2009. Dr. Murthy&rsquo;s postdoctoral training began at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, Cornell University with a yearlong internship. From 2010 to 2013 he completed a neurology residency at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University. Following this, he pursued a neurological surgery residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers University completing it in 2018. During this time, he also completed a fellowship in endoscopic skull-base neurosurgery at Weill Cornell College of Medicine. In 2019, he completed a CAST accredited, AO-Spine fellowship in complex spinal neurosurgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center.</p><p>The focus of Dr. Murthy&rsquo;s research is comparative effective research in spinal neurosurgery. His work has been shared in posters, presentations and peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Murthy is board certified in neurological surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. He is an affiliate member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, a member of AO Spine North America, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.</p>

<p>Andrew I. Gitkind, MD, MHA, is Vice Chair, Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Director, Montefiore Spine Center and Associate Professor, Rehabilitation Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery and Anesthesiology at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Gitkind&rsquo;s clinical focus is on the management of acute and chronic spine pain. He uses a variety of conservative management as well as interventional techniques to help guide patients back to a high level of function and satisfaction.</p><p>After earning his Doctor of Medicine at St. George&rsquo;s University School of Medicine in Granada, West Indies, in 2004, Dr. Gitkind completed a one-year residency in internal medicine at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in 2005 before completing his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Montefiore in 2008, where he was Chief Resident in his last year. Following this, Dr. Gitkind completed a fellowship in pain management with a focus on interventional procedures at Montefiore in 2012. He then earned his Master of Health Administration at the University of Phoenix in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Gitkind has conducted National Institute of Health (NIH) sponsored research. His work has been published as original communications in peer-reviewed journals, books, chapters, review articles, abstracts and poster presentations. He has given invited lectures locally and nationally. Dr. Gitkind is an editorial reviewer for the <em>American Journal of Physical Medicine &amp; Rehabilitation, The Spine Journal</em> and <em>Pain Medicine</em>.</p><p>Dr. Gitkind is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in his primary specialty and has subspecialty board certification in Pain Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the Spine Intervention Society, the North American Spine Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives. <p>Yaroslav (Jacob) Gelfand, MD, is an attending physician and Assistant Professor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Gelfand&rsquo;s clinical specialty is in the use of minimally invasive approaches to diagnose and treat a wide variety of spine pathologies and problems. With extensive training in both minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, Dr. Gelfand offers the latest treatment options to patients, using cutting-edge technology including intraoperative image guidance, fluoroscopy, endoscopy and pre-operative computer planning.</p><p>After completing his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering at University of California, Davis, Dr. Gelfand studied his Doctor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, earning the degree in 2013. His time at Weill Cornell included a yearlong Howard Hughes Medical Fellowship at the institution&rsquo;s neurobiology and behavioral science lab. From 2013 to 2018, Dr. Gelfand pursued a residency in neurosurgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then completed a research fellowship at Columbia University as well as a nonclinical research fellowship with Globus Medical's Musculoskeletal Education and Research Center in 2019, before returning to be chief resident at Einstein&rsquo;s Department of Neurological Surgery from 2019 to 2020.
