Health Insurance Requirement

While you are in the United States, it is your responsibility to be aware of all pertinent regulations governing your non-immigrant status. One of those regulations requires that you maintain health insurance coverage for yourself and any dependents that are with you in the United States on a J-2 Visa. Willfully failing to carry health insurance for yourself and your dependents will require the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, as your sponsor, to terminate your participation.

The regulations establish the following minimum level of coverage:

  • Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per person per accident or illness,
  • Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000,
  • Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the individual to his/her home country in the amount of $50,000,
  • The deductible per accident or illness may not exceed $550, and must meet other standards specified in the regulations.

Upon arrival to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, you will be required to sign a statement indicating that you understand the insurance requirement and that you intend to comply with the insurance requirement. If you will be covered by an outside company (other than Einstein), you will need to present proof of the insurance to the OIS. Further information about this requirement may be obtained by contacting the OIS at alexia.pakiela@einsteinmed.edu
