Based in the Bronx since 2003, NYC RING continues its mission to advance health equity by supporting the research that is most important and relevant to our community. The Bronx is home to a vastly multicultural and multilingual community with a majority population of Hispanic and Latinx residents. We are among the most diverse counties in the nation, with 60% of residents speaking a language other than English at home, and more than one-third who were born outside of the US. Some of the diverse corners of the globe with a large representation here in the Bronx, and within our Montefiore Einstein patient population, include the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Ghana, Ecuador, Bangladesh, and more.
In a community as exceptionally diverse as ours, the pursuit of improved health and healthcare outcomes goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to address racial and socioeconomic health disparities. Therefore, the work of NYC RING is fueled by the vision that communities who have been historically excluded from academic research will be embedded in the process of informing, guiding, leading, and ultimately benefiting from it.
