Didactics

Lunchtime Lecture Series

The Fellow and SICU resident staff will have approximately 25 noontime lectures on various topics in trauma and critical care medicine. These weekly lectures will be given by various faculty from the Department of Surgery and other Departments as well.

Fellow as Lecturer

While the Fellow will be expected to informally teach junior residents and medical students whenever clinically possible, the Fellow is also expected to provide more formal and scheduled didactic teaching to junior staff. During their SICU rotational months, the Fellow will give a 45 minute power point lecture every month to the SICU junior staff. The topic can be any subject related to critical care medicine of the Fellow’s choosing.

Critical Care of the Surgical Patient online course

The Fellow will be provided the weekly curriculum of the on-line Critical Care of the Surgical Patient course published by Decker and Scientific America (SurgCritCare.deckermed.com). The Fellow will be given login access and expected to complete the weekly reading assignments and questions.

The Multidisciplinary Critical Care Knowledge Assessment Program (MCCKAP) online examination

The Fellow is required to register and take the MCCKAP online exam sponsored by the Society of Critical Care Medicine and given in the late Winter/early Spring.
