Jacobi Montefiore Surgical Critical Care Fellowship

Edward Chao, M.D.Edward Chao, M.D., Associate Professor of Surgery, is the Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Chao completed his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014. He completed General Surgery Residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He serves as Director of Acute Care Surgery, Associate Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Director of Surgical Simulation, as well as Site Director of the Surgical Clerkship.

 

Anna Liveris, M.D.Anna Liveris, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery, is the Associate Program Director for the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. Dr. Liveris completed her training at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in 2019. She is the Director of Trauma and Surgical Research and Director of the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Senior Medical Student Elective. As a graduate of the Montefiore Medical Center General Surgery residency, Dr. Liveris remains actively engaged with the residency program.

 

Srinivas H. Reddy, M.D.Srinivas H. Reddy, M.D., Associate Professor of Surgery, completed his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Westchester Medical Center in 2009. He currently serves as the Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Trauma Medical Director, and Associate Director for Trauma and Critical Care Services.

 

Dalia J. A. Alqunaibit, M.B.B.S.Dalia J. A. Alqunaibit, M.B.B.S., Assistant Professor of Surgery, completed her Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Jacobi/montefiore-einstein in 2021. She completed her General Surgery residency at New York Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical Center. Since joining as faculty, she has heavily been involved with quality improvement for the Department of Surgery, surgical education, and point-of-care ultrasound and critical care echocardiography.

 

Sheldon H. Teperman, M.D.Sheldon H. Teperman, M.D., is a graduate of the Montefiore’s General Surgery Program and has been Trauma Medical Director since 2007. Dr. Teperman laid the foundation for Jacobi to become a renowned regional and national ACS-accredited Level-1 trauma center. He currently serves as Chair of the Trauma Council for New York Health and Hospitals public health care system. Dr. Teperman has been board certified in Surgical Critical Care since 1993.

 

John McNelis, M.D.John McNelis, M.D., has been the Chairman of Surgery at Jacobi since 2012 and System Chair for the North Bronx Health Network since 2015. Dr. McNelis has been board certified in Surgical Critical Care since 1991 and Neurocritical Care since 2009. He also serves as a Governor for the American College of Surgeons and was past-President of the Brooklyn-Queens-Long Island Chapter of the American College of surgeons.

 

Vishes V. Mehta, M.D.Vishes V. Mehta, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery, has a clinical interest in chest wall injury and the surgical management of rib fractures, nutrition and feeding access, surgical training, and compassionate end-of-life care. He completed SCC/Trauma Fellowship at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. Prior to this, he completed General Surgery Residency at Montefiore/Jacobi Medical Center. He also obtained an MPH at Emory University, with a focus in Health Policy which continues to guide his academic interests.
