Professional Interests
Dr. Calie Santana joined the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2008. She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish Literature from Cornell University and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. After residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and New York Presbyterian-Cornell, she stayed at Cornell, where she became interested in diabetes quality of care. This experience inspired her research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Yale, which focused on studying the influence of healthcare organizational characteristics on quality of care.
During her time at Yale, Dr. Santana practiced at the Fair Haven Community Health Center. At Montefiore, she practices and supervises residents at CHCC. Her primary responsibility is as Associate Director of Quality for the Department of Medicine. From this position, Dr. Santana has developed a quality improvement curriculum for PC/SM residents, and coordinates improvement initiatives in inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Santana also rigorously evaluates the effectiveness of quality improvement interventions and continues to advance the field of implementation science.
