Professional Interests

Dr. Burns is a specialty-trained neuroradiologist in the Department of Radiology at Einstein, with a primary appointment at Montefiore Medical Center.  He serves as Assistant Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program.

After completing his residency in Diagnostic Radiology, Dr. Burns completed a fellowship in Diagnostic & Therapeutic Neuradiology at Einstein/Montefiore.  His current practice focuses primarily on clinical neuroradiology, including the evaluation of a wide range of both adult and pediatric conditions affecting the brain, head & neck and spine.  A major portion of his clinical work involves both clinical and interdisciplinary teaching.  His daily practice involves the use of advanced CT and MRI to evaluate clinical conditions such as stroke, brain tumors, and demyelinating/inflammatory disease of the brain, as well as both pediatric and adult tumors of the head and neck.  He is also actively involved in the adult neuroendocrine tumor program at the Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center.

In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Burns is the Medical Director of Montefiore Advanced Imaging at GunHill, a newly-renovated, flagship MRI facility featuring three state-of-the-art MRI machines, performing nearly 10,000 MRI examinations annually.  In this capacity, he is involved in both hospital and department-wide safety and quality efforts, with a particular interest in systems-based improvements.  He also has a special interest in electronic health records (EHR) and the integration of radiology into enterprise-wide electronic systems.
