Professional Interests
Sharon Rikin, MD, MS is the Director of Ambulatory Quality Improvement for the Department of Medicine at Montefiore and a primary care physician at the Comprehensive Family Care Center.
Dr. Rikin's work focuses on implementing evidence-based medicine into practice for the Department of Medicine and collaborating with physicians to create a culture focused on high quality care. She is committed to improving health systems by making it easier for clinicians to deliver evidence-based care. Initiatives include:
- Improving access to specialty expertise with electronic consultations (e-consults) (Medical Director)
- Improving blood pressure control with Remote Patient Monitoring Program for Hypertension (Medical Director)
- Improving completion of colorectal cancer screening (QI Lead)
- Implementing evidence based care for patients with diabetic kidney disease (QI Lead)
- Judicious opioid prescribing. (Site Leader for the CDC Opioid QI Collaborative)
- Quality Improvement Professional Development Programs for faculty, residents and fellows in the Department of Medicine (Course Director)
Dr. Rikin graduated from Emory University with a degree in Anthropology and completed medical school and then residency training in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Following residency, she completed General Internal Medicine fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center and received a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
