Professional Interests
Anna Liveris, MD is a trauma and acute care surgeon at Jacobi Medical Center. She is board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery with additional board certification in neurocritical care medicine from the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Liveris coordinates care for the Bronx’s critically injured and personally performs hundreds of emergency operations each year. She specializes in the management of critically-ill surgical patients and provides as advanced care in neurotrauma and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Dr. Liveris’ research interests include trauma outcomes, injury prevention, traumatic brain injury, and ECMO. She has authored or co-authored numerous original scientific articles, review articles, and book chapters with a special expertise in traumatic brain injury and geriatric trauma. She is a reviewer for many journals in the field of trauma and acute care surgery and is also involved in several ongoing national and international multicenter trials as Einstein’s principal investigator.
Dr. Liveris is a member of a number of professional societies including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American College of Surgeons. She is involved with many of these organizations’ national committees to develop clinical practice guidelines, research agendas, and training program curricula.
Dr. Liveris graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering. She then received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, graduating with special distinction in surgical research after the completion of dedicated research in extracorporeal therapies. She completed general surgery residency training at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NYC and served as the academic chief resident. Dr. Liveris then went on to complete her fellowship in surgical critical care at the world-renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
