<p>Angela R. Verardo, MD, is Director, Pediatric Endocrine Bone Clinic at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatric Endocrinology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Verardo sees a variety of patients with endocrine disorders and has a particular interest in children with rare and metabolic bone disorders.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in biology from Northeastern University in 2007, Dr. Verardo earned her Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College in 2012. She completed her pediatrics residency at New York University School of Medicine in 2015, followed by a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Verardo&rsquo;s research interests include improvement in the management of bone health in patients at risk of fracture as well as new treatment modalities for patients with rare bone conditions. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, chapters, review articles and posters, and she has shared her work through many invited talks. Dr. Verardo enjoys giving back to the scientific process by being a reviewer for journals and society meetings.</p><p>Dr. Verardo is board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Endocrine and General Pediatrics. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Metabolism Research and the International Society for Children&rsquo;s Bone Health. She is a board member of the Human Growth Foundation, which allows her to work on advocacy and education for children and adults with rare growth, bone and endocrine disorders. In 2023, Dr. Verardo was selected to be the Jersey City Healthcare Ambassador for JDRF One Walk for her previous advocacy for children with diabetes. She also enjoys volunteering at Camp Nejeda, a camp for children with diabetes.</p>

<p>Morri Markowitz, MD, is Director, Lead Poisoning Prevention and Treatment Program and Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Markowitz's clinical interest is in providing treatment for lead poisoning, focusing on care to children and pregnant and lactating women. He also cares for children with bone mineral metabolism problems.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Illinois in 1970, Dr. Markowitz earned his Doctor of Medicine at Montefiore Einstein in 1974. He remained at Montefiore to continue his medical training, completing his pediatrics residency in 1978 where he was Chief Resident in his final year, followed by a clinical research fellowship in pediatric endocrinology/metabolism in 1981. Following this, Dr. Markowitz completed an additional pediatric metabolism fellowship at Montefiore in 1982.</p><p>Dr. Markowitz&rsquo;s research assesses diagnostic and treatment modalities in lead-poisoned children. He has been principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agency-funded research projects, and he has shared his work through numerous peer-reviewed publications and invited presentations.</p><p>Dr. Markowitz is board certified in General Pediatrics. He has been a member of many professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Society for Bone &amp; Mineral Research, among others. Dr. Markowitz received the Master Teacher Award from Montefiore in 2003, and was named a Fullbright Scholar Specialist in 2004.</p>

<p>As a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Lam manages and cares for children and adolescents in many areas of clinical endocrinology, including growth disorders, premature pubertal advancement or delay, diabetes, adrenal disorders, and calcium and vitamin D abnormalities, with particular interest in pediatric thyroid diseases and thyroid cancer. Besides his clinical work, Dr. Lam is actively involved in the teaching of pediatric house staff, fellows and medical students in both the hospital and the outpatient clinic settings.??? </p><p>As a clinical research scientist, Dr. Lam is actively engaged in research concerning the role of hormonal disorders in children. Biography

<p>Laurie E. Cohen, MD, is Chief, Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes and Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. An expert in growth disorders and short stature in children, Dr. Cohen also specializes in endocrine issues experienced by childhood cancer survivors, such as growth hormone deficiency and decreased fertility.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984, Dr. Cohen attended Cornell University Medical College, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1998. She then pursued postgraduate training at Yale-New Haven Hospital with a residency in pediatrics from 1988 to 1991. In 1994, she completed her three-year fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Boston Children&rsquo;s Hospital.</p><p>Dr. Cohen&rsquo;s research focuses on the impact of cancer therapies on growth and the endocrine system in children with central nervous system tumors, as well as other malignancies and bone marrow failure syndromes. Her research also examines determinants of growth and development. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, books, abstracts, invited presentations, and national and international lectures. Dr. Cohen has also often served as a reviewer for many medical journals.</p><p>Dr. Cohen is board certified in pediatric endocrinology. She is a member of several professional societies including the Pediatric Endocrine Society, where she has had several leadership positions including as a Director-at-Large and is currently President Elect, and the Endocrine Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Growth Hormone Research Society. She has been recognized several times in Boston Magazine Boston&rsquo;s Top Doctors, as well as by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor since 2008.</p>

<p>Tamar G. Baer, MD, is Associate Fellowship Program Director, Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore, and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus is in pediatric endocrinology, differences in sexual development, and diabetes.</p><p>After completing her Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2007 at Barnard College, Columbia University, Dr. Baer pursued her medical education at Einstein, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2011. She continued at Einstein for her internship and residency in pediatrics, completing her chief residency in 2015. She continued her postdoctoral training at Columbia University Medical Center, completing a three-year fellowship in pediatric endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism in 2018.</p><p>Dr. Baer&rsquo;s research follows her clinical interest in medical education, wellbeing in medical training, pediatric endocrinology and diabetes. She has shared her research through peer-reviewed journals and poster presentations.</p><p>Dr. Baer is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics.</p>
