<p>Improving patient care is the heart of Dr. Di Biase's mission. He believes that this is possible through dedicated clinical practice associated to cutting-edge clinical research. Dr. Di Biase's research focuses on cardiology and electrophysiology with specific emphasis on catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias performed either manually or with robotic catheter navigation. Additionally, his research focuses on heart failure, particularly cases treated with cardiac resynchronization therapy devices.</p>
<p>Dr. Di Biase, MD, PhD, FACC, FHRS, is a 2000 graduate (summa cum laude) of the medical school and a 2004 graduate (summa cum laude) of the cardiology residency program at the University of Bari, Bari, Italy. In 2006, he completed a second-level master degree in Electrophysiology and Pacing (summa cum laude) at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.</p>
<p>In 2007, Dr. Di Biase received a grant from the Italian National Society of Cardiology to pursue a research fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Natale at the Miller Family Heart &amp; Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. The following year, he accepted a position in cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Texas Medical School Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he continued to focus on his research projects at St. David's Medical Center under the leadership of Dr. Natale.</p>
<p>Dr. Di Biase was appointed Assistant Professor in 2007 at the University of Foggia, Italy, where he completed the PhD program in cardiovascular physiopathology in November 2010.</p>
<p>In 2009, Dr. Di Biase was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was promoted to Adjunct Associate Professor in 2012, the same year he joined Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center&nbsp;with the title of Associate Professor, Department of Medicine (Cardiology).</p>
<p>In September 2014 Dr. Di Biase was appointed Section Head of Electrophysiology and Director of Arrhythmia Services at Einstein/Montefiore, while continuing to serve as Senior Researcher at the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute at St. David's Medical Center.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Subsequently Dr. Di Biase was promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine (Cardiology).</p>
<p>Dr. Di Biase is the author of more than 450 publications in indexed journals, about 500 abstracts, and 18 electrophysiology book chapters. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences as an invited speaker.</p>
<p class="lessPadding">Dr. Di Biase is a member of the Italian Federation of Cardiology and Electrophysiology (FIC-AIAC), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS), and the American College of Cardiology (FACC). He is also an honorary member of the Korean Society of Cardiology.</p>
<p class="lessPadding">Dr Di Biase serves as reviewer of major electrophysiology and cardiology journals, and as an editorial board member of&nbsp;<em>Heart Rhythm Journal</em>,&nbsp;<em>Heart Rhythm Journal Case Report</em>, and&nbsp;<em>Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine</em>. He is Associate Editor for&nbsp;<em>Journal Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology (JICE)</em>&nbsp;and Associate Section Editor for&nbsp;<em>Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology (PACE)</em>.</p>

<p>Jooyoung Julia Shin, MD, is Fellowship Director, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program and Associate Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Shin&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on heart failure, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in 1994, Dr. Shin earned her Doctor of Medicine at George Washington University in 1999. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland in 2002 before completing a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Emory University in 2005. Following this, Dr. Shin remained at Emory to complete an additional fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology in 2006.</p><p>Dr. Shin&rsquo;s research focuses on fellow education. She has been principal investigator and co-principal investigator on several funded research projects, and she has presented at invited lectures nationwide. Her work has also been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and she has been a reviewer for scientific publications, including the <em>Mayo Clinic Proceedings</em>, the <em>American Journal of Cardiology</em> and <em>Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology</em>, among others.</p><p>Dr. Shin is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. She is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.</p>

<p>Omar Saeed, MD, is an Attending Cardiologist at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical focus is on heart failure, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in molecular and cellular biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003, Dr. Saeed attended New York Medical College, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2007. He began his postdoctoral training at Emory University Hospital, completing a residency in internal medicine in 2010 and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease in 2011. He then transferred to Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Here he completed a research fellowship in heart failure, transplant and mechanical circulatory support in 2012, a cardiovascular disease fellowship in 2014 and a fourth-year clinical fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant in 2015.</p><p>Dr. Saeed&rsquo;s research focuses on the mechanisms of hematological and neurological adverse events during mechanical circulatory support. He has published as primary author or as co-author over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and he has presented regionally, nationally and internationally. He also has been an invited manuscript reviewer for many journals, including <em>Haemostasis and Thrombosis, </em>the <em>Journal of Lung and Heart Transplantation</em> and the <em>Journal of Human Immunology</em>.</p><p>Dr. Saeed has received the Martin Cohen award for excellence in cardiovascular fellowship training, the Edmund Sonnenblick award for excellence in heart failure research and the NIH K23 career development award supporting his commitment to patient-oriented research. He attended New England Medical Center Hospital for the start of his postdoctoral training, completing an internship in medicine in 1980, and a residency in 1982. From 1982 to 1985, he was a fellow in the cardiovascular division at the Harvard Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, and from 1985 to 1986, he was a research fellow with the cardiology department at Medizinische Poliklinik, Universitaetsspital in Zurich, Switzerland.</p><p>Dr. Monrad&rsquo;s research focuses on improving clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. <p>Mark A. Menegus, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Montefiore&rsquo;s Einstein campus and Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining Montefiore, his focus has been interventional and clinical cardiology, interventional management of acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndromes, outpatient consultative cardiology and training general and interventional cardiology fellows.</p><p>In 1977, Dr. Menegus received his Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science/Physiology from Rutgers University. He then attended Rutgers Medical School, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1981. From 1981 to 1987, Dr. Menegus completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at Montefiore, also serving as an Assistant Firm Leader in the Deparment of Medicine.</p><p>Dr. Menegus has been the Principal Investigator for many research projects, including the NIH-sponsored Myocardial Infarction and Transfusion trial, the SHOCK trial, and the PHRI-sponsored COMPLETE trial. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, books and abstracts and has been presented nationally.</p><p>He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention and the American Heart Association. Dr. Menegus has been listed in Castle Connolly Medical as a New York Metro Area Top Doctor from 2001 to 2019. </p>

<p>Azeem Latib, MB BCh, is Medical Director of Structural Heart Interventions at Montefiore. Dr. Latib is a world-leading expert in interventional cardiology, with a clinical focus on complex coronary interventions as well as transcatheter aortic, mitral and tricuspid interventions. He has extensive clinical experience in TAVR and MitraClip, as well as expertise in novel and new devices to treat mitral and tricuspid valve disease minimally invasively without open-heart surgery.</p><p>In 1995, Dr. Latib received his Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed a fellowship with the College of Physicians of South Africa in 2002, followed by a certificate in cardiology from the same institution in 2005. In 2008 he completed a master&rsquo;s in interventional cardiology at San Raffaele Scientific Institute and University Vita Salute in Milan, Italy. In 2018, he attended the University of Zurich to earn a certificate of advanced studies in aortic structural interventions.</p><p>Following from his clinical interests, Dr. Latib&rsquo;s research centers on transcatheter aortic, mitral and tricuspid interventions with a focus on device innovation. In addition, he performs research on drug-coated balloons, drug-eluting stents and challenging lesion subsets. His findings have been published widely, with more than 550 peer-reviewed publications. Research Focus

<p>Dr. Guttenplan is the principle investigator at Montefiore in an outcomes study of a left ventricular quadrapolar pacing lead. During the study he as adapted the use of an interventional snare technique. This approach has allowed for successful left ventricular lead placement, that would not have been possible with the conventional approach. Dr. Guttenplan is also a co-investigator in the division's ablation studies.</p>

His clinical focus is on complex electrophysiology (EP) management problems as well as issues related to implantation and management of all types of implantable electrical devices, with a focus on lead extraction.</p><p>After graduating from our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completing his residency at Montefiore in Internal Medicine, Dr. Gross continued on to complete a cardiology fellowship at Montefiore. <br /><br />Dr. Gross has been a principal site or co-investigator in many of the critical clinical trials that have established the utility and indications for pacemaker mode selection, rate-modulated pacing, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy. He has also been principal or co-author of dozens of scientific publications.</p><p>Recent clinical highlights for Dr. Gross include: the first reported cases of implantation of subcutaneous ICDs in heart transplant patients, simultaneous lead extraction and debulking of large vegetations in patients with endocarditis, concomitant lead extraction and implantation of leadless pacemakers, and care for of congenital heart patients who require both transvenously implanted devices and subcutaneous ICDs.</p><p>Dr. Gross is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Electrophysiology as well as a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr. Gross has served on the Writing Committee of the International Board of Heart Rhythm Board of Examiners for over two decades and now serves on its board of directors. He has been named to the Castle Connolly/NY Magazine List of Best EP Doctors in New York for the past two years.</p>
