Professional Interests

Dr. Juhan (John) Lee's research interests are epidemiology in tobacco and substance use among underrepresented priority populations such as sexual/gender minority, race/ethnic minority individuals and youth and young adults.

Education / Training: He completed his postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry (2021-2024) 

Honors / Awards: He was an awardee of the Electra Paskett Scholarship Award at the American Society of Preventive Oncology (ASPO) and several travel awards at the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco (SRNT), Society for Prevention Research (SPR), College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD). He was a finalist at the Office of Health Equity Research Award for 2022 Yale Research Excellence, Yale School of Medicine. 

Grant: He was a lead of the Yale TCORS pilot grant, entitled "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ)-targeted tobacco marketing: Evaluating frequency of exposure and relationships with tobacco use, susceptibility, and risk perceptions among LGBTQ young adults" (National Institute on Drug Abuse; 02/2023-08/2023)

Publications: He has published multiple papers in high-profile journals such as the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, LGBTQ Health, Nicotine and Tobacco Research, Drug and Alcohol Dependence, Pediatrics, and JAMA Network Open.

Invited talks: Dr. Lee presented his research and served as a discussant and presenter at the American Psychiatric Association (APA), FDA Center for Tobacco Products, NIH Tobacco Regulatory Science (TRS) Meeting, and Rhode Island Public Health Association Data brief release (Tobacco flavors) panel discussion.

Leadership: He has been serving as a co-chair of the Program Committee (Health Equity), LGBTQ+ workgroup, and Adolescent Network at the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT), and a member of the Tobacco Consortium at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Travel Awards Committee at the College on Problems of Drug and Dependence (CPDD).
