<p>Dr. Evan Garfein completed a medical degree from Columbia University&rsquo;s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and trained in general surgery at Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Hospital. Between general surgery and plastic surgery training, Dr. Garfein conducted research at Harvard Medical School, concentrating on the role of hematopoietic stem cells in wound healing. He completed a plastic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Residency Program, serving as chief resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, Children&rsquo;s Hospital Boston, and the Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Hospital. He also completed a microsurgery fellowship at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University.</p>
<p>In 2010, Dr. Garfein authored a new bill requiring hospitals to inform breast cancer patients of breast reconstruction options after mastectomy.</p>
<p>Dr. Garfein was named Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Montefiore Einstein in February 2014.</p>
<p>Dr. Garfein&rsquo;s research interests include the disparity in rates of breast reconstruction, advanced radiographic planning in the design of free flaps and perforator flaps, and prefabrication of flaps for functional reconstruction of the face.</p>
<p>Dr. Garfein&rsquo;s clinical interests are in microsurgical and complex reconstruction, particularly breast, lower extremity, and head and neck reconstruction. He has significant experience with surgical treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa, and is also interested in aesthetic surgery, particularly of the face, breasts and abdomen.</p>

<p>Dr. Garfein's clinical interests are in microsurgical and complex reconstruction. He has received advanced training in the use of perforator flaps to minimize donor-site morbidity. His major interests are in breast, lower extremity, and head and neck reconstruction. Dr. Garfein performs all methods of breast reconstruction, including the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap, transverse upper gracilis (TUG) flap, thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) flap and superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap. He has significant experience with free fibular osseocutaneous flaps for reconstruction of head and neck defects. He is also interested in aesthetic surgery, particularly of the face, breasts and abdomen.</p>

<p>In 2008, Dr. Garfein founded the <em><a href="body.cfm?id=1324">In It Together Foundation</a></em> at Montefiore Medical Center. The Foundation assists disadvantaged patients with daily needs after reconstructive surgery.</p><p>In 2012, Dr. Garfein created a program that delivers current health information via text messages to residents of the Bronx. <p>Dr. David Ciocon received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (cum laude with HIgh Honors in History and Literature) and his M.D. from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Prior to his residency in dermatology, he completed three years of a combined general and plastic surgery residency training at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital as well as a one-year clinical research fellowship in psoriasis at Harvard University, Brigham &amp; Women's Hospital. He subsequently completed a dermatology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident and recipient of the Leo M. Davidoff Award for Excellence in Teaching. He then completed a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology fellowship at Skin Laser &amp; Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey under the guidance of Dr. David Goldberg in 2009.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Since 2013, Dr. Ciocon has served as the Director of Dermatologic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has also serves as the Director of Clinical Operations of the Dermatology Division of the Montefiore Medical Center.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Ciocon is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmestic and Laser Therapy. He is a preceptor in the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Preceptor program.</p>
<p>Dr. Ciocon's clinical interests include Mohs Micrographic surgery, facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, laser-assisted tumescent liposuction, autologous fat transfer, laser medicine, and minimally invasive cosmetic dermatology. He has written multiple peer-reviewed publications and textbooks with respect to surgical and non-surgical approaches to cutaneous oncology, cutaneous reconstruction, and aesthetic rejuvenation.</p>

Biography

<p>David Ciocon, MD, is Director, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology and Director, Clinical Operations, Dermatology Division at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Dermatology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ciocon&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on Mohs micrographic surgery, cutaneous oncology, cosmetic dermatologic surgery and lasers.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1994, Dr. Ciocon earned his Doctor of Medicine at Rutgers University in 2002. He completed an internship and residency in general and plastic surgery at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital in 2005 and became a dermatopharmacology research fellow at Harvard University, Brigham and Women's Hospital until 2006. Following this, Dr. Ciocon completed his dermatology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2009, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. He then completed a Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology fellowship at Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey in 2010.</p><p>Building on his clinical focus, Dr. Ciocon&rsquo;s research is focused on Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic oncology, cosmetic dermatologic surgery and lasers. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters and abstracts. He has also given many national presentations.</p><p>Dr. Ciocon is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology with a subspecialty certification in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, among others.
