<p>W. Scott Melvin, MD, is Vice Chairman, Clinical Affairs, Professor, Surgery, Division Chief, General Surgery and Director, Advanced GI Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. He is a nationally recognized clinical specialist in gastrointestinal diseases and minimally invasive approaches to their management. Dr. Melvin specializes in treating conditions such as esophagus and swallowing disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gallstones, and cancers and disorders of the GI tract.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Ohio Northern University in 1983, Dr. Melvin completed his Master of Science from the University of Toledo, Medical College of Ohio in 1987. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in 1992, and then completed a yearlong fellowship in gastrointestinal surgery with Ohio State University in 1993.</p><p>Dr. Melvin&rsquo;s research focuses on discovering minimally invasive options for treating gastrointestinal diseases and new technology developments in surgery. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters and is commonly invited to give lectures on the treatment of esophageal disease in national and international settings. Dr. Melvin serves on multiple editorial boards and review panels.</p><p>Dr. Melvin is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been named one of America's Top Doctors and America's Top Cancer Doctors by Castle Connolly for many years and has been president of several national surgical societies. Dr. Melvin has also participated in many international educational and service events, including operating and teaching in Africa, China, Japan, and South and Central America.</p>

<p>Maureen P. McEvoy, MD, FACS, is a Breast Surgeon and Associate Professor at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus is on minimally invasive and oncoplastic techniques to achieve cosmetically acceptable outcomes while treating breast cancer surgically. In addition, she focuses on lymphedema prevention in practice and research. As a physician, Dr. McEvoy educates patients about their diagnoses and helps them explore treatment options.</p><p>Dr. McEvoy received her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and chemistry at New York University. She continued her studies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. Her postgraduate training began at Einstein with a surgical residency. During this time, Dr. McEvoy also participated in a clinical research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which she completed before finishing up her residency. Her training continued at Massachusetts General Hospital with a yearlong fellowship in breast surgical oncology.</p><p>Young women with breast cancer and the prevention of lymphedema have been main focuses of interest in Dr. McEvoy&rsquo;s research. She has presented her work on breast cancer nationally at numerous meetings and lectures. <p>Balazs Halmos, MD, MS was recruited in May 2015 to serve as Director of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program and Director of the Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology for Montefiore Health Systems. Dr. Halmos has also been appointed as the first Director of Clinical Cancer Genetics and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Einstein.</p>

His research interests are focused on studies of targeted agents for the treatment of thoracic malignancies as well as translational studies aimed at different aspects of lung cancer biology such as oncogenic tyrosine kinase targeting, resistance to chemotherapy, radiation and targeted therapeutics. He will oversee the thoracic clinical trials program and spearhead the effort to develop guidelines for genetic testing for cancer patients of different anatomic sites to implement a personalized cancer medicine approach.</p>
<p>Dr. Halmos joined Montefiore and Einstein from Columbia University Medical Center, where he was Director of Thoracic Medical Oncology since 2009, Associate Professor of Medicine, and Chairman of the Cancer IRB. He completed a medical degree summa cum laude from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, an internal medicine residency at St.Luke&rsquo;s-Roosevelt Hospital/Columbia University, and a hematology/oncology fellowship program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, where he also obtained a master of science in clinical sciences from Harvard Medical School. Since completion of his fellowship, he has been on the faculties at Harvard, Case Western Reserve University, and Columbia.</p>
<p>Dr. Halmos is the recipient of multiple awards from organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, and American Cancer Society and serves as a permanent review board member for the American Cancer Society. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.</p>

He completed an internal medicine residency program at St.Luke&rsquo;s-Roosevelt Hospital/Columbia University in New York City followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massaschuestts.</p><p>While in Dr. Halmos, also obtained an MS degree in Clinical Sciences from Harvard Medical School. Since completion of his fellowship, he has been a faculty member at Harvard, Case Western Reserve University and most recently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. There he served as Director of Thoracic Oncology from 2009-2014 and was also Chair of the Cancer IRB.</p><p>Dr. Halmos also oversees the thoracic clinical trials program of novel clinical studies at the Montefiore Albert Einstein Cancer Center and is spearheading the effort to develop a molecular testing paradigm for cancer patients managed within the Montefiore to facilitate a personalized cancer medicine approach throughout the health system.</p><p>He is the recipient of multiple awards from prestigious organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research and the American Cancer Society, where he also serves as a permanent review board member. </p>

<p>Sheldon Marc Feldman, MD, is Chief, Breast Surgery and Breast Surgical Oncology, Professor, Surgery and Director, Breast Cancer Services at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus includes breast cancer, oncoplastic surgery with an emphasis on optimizing breast conservation, nipple-sparing mastectomy, minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment, intraoperative radiation, targeted tumor ablation, lymphedema prevention, and complementary integrative holistic care with an emphasis on physician-patient communication.</p><p>In 1971, Dr. Feldman received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Following this, he attended the New York University Medical School where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1975. He began his postgraduate training at NYU Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital in 1975 and spent 5 years completing an internship and residency in Surgery. He became Executive Chief Surgical Resident in 1980. Dr. Feldman then trained at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where he completed a fellowship in Peripheral Vascular Surgery in 1981.</p><p>Extending his clinical focus, Dr. Feldman focuses his research on targeted tumor ablation, intraoperative margin assessment, novel surgical techniques to minimize lymphedema risk, intraductal approach to breast cancer&ndash;evaluating biomarkers in nipple aspirate fluid (NAF) and intraductal diagnosis and therapy, nonsurgical treatment of ductal carcinoma, and breast cancer prevention. He has been a principal investigator on multiple research projects and has given lectures both nationally and internationally. Dr. Feldman&rsquo;s work has been presented in over 100 peer-reviewed publications.</p><p>From 2008 to 2015, he was named a New York Super Doctor in the New York Times. He was President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons from 2016 to 2017, and he is currently president of the New York Metropolitan Breast Group.</p><p>Dr. Feldman is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, and he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the International Society of Lymphology.</p>
