<p>David Weithorn, MD, is a general surgeon and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. A fellowship-trained minimally invasive general surgeon, Dr. Weithorn focuses on using minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery, to treat a wide range of surgical diseases, including gallstones (gallbladder removal), hiatal hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, diverticulitis, colon cancer, ventral and inguinal hernias including complex hernias, recurrent ventral and inguinal hernias, and neurectomy procedures for chronic inguinal pain after inguinal hernia repair.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Science from University of Florida in 2011, Dr. Weithorn attended the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2015. He completed his residency in general surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in 2020, then pursued fellowship in robotic/minimally invasive surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, training with pioneers in robotic surgery.</p><p>Dr. Weithorn is interested in outcomes-based research using minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce morbidity and speed recovery for a wide range of general surgical conditions, especially acute and/or emergent surgical conditions. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journal articles and national presentations.</p><p>Dr. Weithorn is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.</p>

She also provides elective general surgical care.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology: Athletic Training from the University of New Hampshire in 2003, Dr. Siciliano spent five years between undergraduate and medical schools working as an Athletic Trainer and Medical Assistant. She then attended the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, from 2008 to 2012, earning her Doctor of Medicine. She completed her postdoctoral training with a residency in general surgery at Maine Medical Center in 2018, followed by a fellowship in surgical critical care at Duke University Medical Center in 2019. <p>Kenneth Shapiro, MD, FACS, is an attending surgeon and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Shapiro&rsquo;s clinical focus is on hernia repairs and the gastrointestinal tract, utilizing state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgery techniques to provide optimal care. He is proud to have served the Bronx community for his entire career.</p><p>In 1994, Dr. Shapiro graduated from The Sophie Davis School of Biomedicine, receiving his Bachelor of Science in biomedicine. He later attended New York Medical College, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1996. After several months of clinical research with the Mount Sinai/Cabrini program, Dr. Shapiro pursued his surgery residency at Cabrini Medical Center, completing it in 2002. <p>W. Scott Melvin, MD, is Vice Chairman, Clinical Affairs, Professor, Surgery, Division Chief, General Surgery and Director, Advanced GI Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. He is a nationally recognized clinical specialist in gastrointestinal diseases and minimally invasive approaches to their management. Dr. Melvin specializes in treating conditions such as esophagus and swallowing disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gallstones, and cancers and disorders of the GI tract.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Ohio Northern University in 1983, Dr. Melvin completed his Master of Science from the University of Toledo, Medical College of Ohio in 1987. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in 1992, and then completed a yearlong fellowship in gastrointestinal surgery with Ohio State University in 1993.</p><p>Dr. Melvin&rsquo;s research focuses on discovering minimally invasive options for treating gastrointestinal diseases and new technology developments in surgery. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters and is commonly invited to give lectures on the treatment of esophageal disease in national and international settings. Dr. Melvin serves on multiple editorial boards and review panels.</p><p>Dr. Melvin is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been named one of America's Top Doctors and America's Top Cancer Doctors by Castle Connolly for many years and has been president of several national surgical societies. Dr. Melvin has also participated in many international educational and service events, including operating and teaching in Africa, China, Japan, and South and Central America.</p>

<p>Sean P. McGrath, MD, FACS, is a general surgeon and Associate Professor, Surgery at Montefiore-Einstein. With advanced training in minimally invasive surgical techniques and robotic surgery, Dr. McGrath&rsquo;s clinical focus is on care for patients with disorders of the skin, gallbladder and small bowel/colon. He also has an interest in the use of minimally invasive techniques for the repair of various inguinal, ventral and incisional hernias, as well as the treatment of skin and soft tissue conditions such as lumps, bumps, cysts and tumors.</p><p>After completing his Bachelor of Science in psychology at North Carolina State University, Dr. McGrath attended American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2012. From 2013 to 2018, he completed his general surgery residency at Greenville Health System, University of South Carolina School of Medicine.</p><p>His research interests include general and robotic surgery, surgical education and international medicine. He has shared his work through poster presentations, oral presentations and submissions to peer-reviewed journals.</p><p>Dr. McGrath is board certified in General Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of the American Medical Association, among others.</p>
