Information for Incoming Students

Welcome incoming Ph.D. students! We are excited to welcome you all to the Einstein community. We hope that you find this webpage useful as you prepare for the start of the program. First year Ph.D. students will start on Monday, August 1, 2022. Housing move-in dates are July 29 - July 31. 

 

Student Checklist (complete prior to starting the program)

First year Ph.D. students need to fulfill the following requirements prior to the starting the program: Health Clearance, HR Onboarding, and complete academic transcript verification. Descriptions about these requirements are listed below, please refer to our email communications that have been sent to you for full details.

1. COMPLETE MEDICAL FORMS

Health clearance forms are sent to incoming students via email. The health clearance forms must be completed prior to the start of the program. Please note: you will be unable to begin the program unless the forms are complete. The completed forms must be returned directly to the Einstein Occupational Heath Office no later than July 1, 2022.

Please do not send medical forms to the Graduate Office.

2. ONBOARDING

Detailed information on completing the onboarding process is sent to incoming students via email. In order for you to successfully join the program you will need to complete the onboarding process through Human Resources, which will include:

  • Completion of student onboarding application
  • Background screening including criminal and SS Trace
  • Urine drug screening
  • Proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States for I-9 purposes
  • Completion of online Preventing Workplace Harassment Training Course

3. ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT VERIFICATION

Final Transcripts for Students Educated in the United States: 

Incoming Ph.D. students will need to arrange for final official transcripts to be sent by mail or electronically to the Graduate Office.

Final Transcripts for Students Educated Outside the United States: 

Transcripts from international schools will need to be evaluated by World Education​ Services (WES). Official transcripts should be sent directly to WES. The cost for the WES course by course evaluation of incoming first year Ph.D. students will be covered by Einstein. Visit the WES website http://www.wes.org/required/ for information regarding the required documents for credential evaluations.

4. Complete Online CITI Training

Prior to your arrival you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the online CITI training modules. Instructions and log-in information will be sent in early June. The online modules must be completed prior to your arrival. The training can be completed in a few hours.
 

Orientation

Orientation begins promptly at 8:00am on Monday, August 1. Orientation is designed to acclimate you to the Einstein campus, and to prepare you for the rigorous undertaking of the Ph.D. program. 

A full orientation schedule will be sent to incoming students via email.

BIOCHEMISTRY ASSESSMENT

In order to ascertain your readiness for the Biochemistry course (course #7001), all incoming students will take an assessment test. The test will be administered during Orientation; you will receive information about the date, time and location during Orientation. Detailed information will be sent to incoming students via email. 


Housing

Housing applications should be completed and returned to the Housing Office at Einstein. 

Once your completed housing application has been received, the Housing Office will start the process of creating housing assignments and issuing rental agreements.

MOVE-IN

Please plan to move in anytime between Friday, July 29 - Sunday, July 31. Your student ID card and apartment keys will be left in an envelope (with your name) at the Security Desk in 1935 Eastchester Road, Bronx, New York 10461.
 

Health Insurance

The student health insurance policy will be effective beginning on orientation day. Do not cancel your present health coverage until then.
