<p>Dr. Sunit P. Jariwala is the Medical Director of Digital Transformation of the Faculty Practice Group and the Director of Clinical &amp; Research Innovation of the Department of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He also serves as the Director of Allergy/Immunology Research for the Division of Allergy/Immunology and Co-Director of the Montefiore Asthma Center. Dr. Jariwala's clinical practice covers all aspects of allergy, asthma, and immunologic diseases in children and adults. Dr. Jariwala serves on the Editorial Board of the <em>Journal of Allergy and Asthma</em>. To date, Dr. Jariwala has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals such as the <em>New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Allergy, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology,&nbsp;</em>and&nbsp;<em>Applied Clinical Informatics.&nbsp;</em>He has&nbsp;received 22 clinical research grants (PI on 14 grants) for his work regarding novel information technology-based asthma education interventions for patients. Grant funding sources have included the NIH/NHLBI, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Price Family Foundation, New York Regional Center for Diabetes Translation Research, and the Einstein Global Health Center. He recently served as the Chair of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma &amp; Immunology's Health Informatics, Technology and Education (HITE) Committee. He has also served as an NIH Study Section member for the Biomedical Computing and Health Informatics Study Section.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Jariwala has a long-standing interest in quality improvement and medical informatics, especially regarding asthma care delivery. He developed and pilot tested an adult version of the ASTHMAXcel mobile intervention for severe asthma patients. The ASTHMAXcel tool is available for smartphones and tablets, and provides guideline-based asthma education in the ambulatory and emergency department settings. This platform has been extended to other chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes and was also extended to the emergency department setting. ASTHMAXcel website - www.asthmaxcel.net</p&gt;
<p>Dr. Jariwala is board certified in Allergy/Immunology and Clinical Informatics, and has been recognized with the Physician&rsquo;s Recognition Award with Commendation in Continuing Medical Education by the American Medical Association. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Rutgers College General Honors Program and UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Jariwala completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Montefiore Medical Center. Upon the completion of his training, he received the Leo Davidoff Award for outstanding achievement in the teaching of medical students. Dr. Jariwala is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.</p>

Biography

<p>Sunit P. Jariwala, MD, is Medical Director, Digital Transformation; Director, Clinical & Research Innovation; Co-Director, Montefiore Einstein Asthma Center, and Founding Director, Innovation Biodesign Training Program at Montefiore Einstein. He is also Professor, Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical focus is in the diagnosis and treatment of severe asthma in adults and children.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology and biochemistry at Rutgers University, Dr. Jariwala attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2005. He came to Montefiore Einstein for his postgraduate training, completing his internal medicine residency in 2008, and his allergy/immunology fellowship in 2011. He is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration in Finance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Isenberg School of Management.</p><p>Dr. Jariwala&rsquo;s research interests focus on chronic conditions and health disparities, including the development and implementation of innovative health technologies such as mobile applications, applying the social needs-based innovation biodesign framework to create novel health technologies, and investigating health disparities surrounding patients' access to biologic medications. He has shared his work through more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters, abstracts, and national and regional presentations. He has also served as an ad hoc reviewer for several national and international medical journals.</p><p>Dr. Jariwala is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Clinical Informatics). He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American Medical Association. In 2008, Dr. Jariwala received the Leo M. Davidoff Award for outstanding achievement in the teaching of medical students. He was listed in <em>New York Times Magazine</em>&rsquo;s &ldquo;New York Rising Stars&rdquo; in 2013, 2014 and 2016.</p>

Her research focuses on asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis. She is a Principal Investigator of multiple clinical trials evaluating the efficacy &amp; safety of traditional and experimental drugs in asthma. Dr. Hudes collaborates with Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Mayo Clinic on the research project evaluating biologic treatment in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis. Currently she is investigating the relationship between different asthma phenotypes and COVID 19 infection outcomes as well as persistent eosinophilia etiologic factors in inner city population. Her past research focused on immune changes in patients with bronchial asthma during speleotherapy in karst caves. She has published journal articles, abstracts, review articles and book chapters. She mentored numerous fellows, residents and medical students, rotating through the Allergy Division.</span></span></span></strong></p>

<p>Dr. Caroline Halverstam is an associate professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Dermatology at Jacobi Medical Center. She did her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri and completed an internship at New York University. She did residency in dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York, where she served as Chief resident during her final year.</p>
<p>She is a board-certified dermatologist and member of the American Academy of Dermatology, New York State Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery and New York Academy of Medicine, Dermatology division. <p>Caroline Halverstam, MD, FAAD, is an attending dermatologist and Associate Professor at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Halverstam&rsquo;s clinical focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of general and complex medical dermatology including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, hair loss, vitiligo, skin cancer and autoimmune conditions.</p><p>In 2022, Dr. Halverstam received her Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University. She then pursued her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2007. She began her postgraduate training with an internship in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center, followed by a dermatology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, which she completed in 2011, taking on the role of Chief Resident in her final year.</p><p>Dr. Halverstam has contributed to prominent dermatologic journals on the subjects of dermatologic education, complex medical dermatology and cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19. She has shared her work through book chapters and numerous invited presentations, and serves on the editorial board for the <em>Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology: Case Reports</em>.</p><p>Dr. Halverstam is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York and the New York State Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.</p>

Dr. Ferastraoaru&rsquo;s clinical focus is on the care of patients with a variety of allergic conditions including allergic rhinitis, acute and chronic sinusitis, allergic conjunctivitis, itching, skin rashes, urticaria, angioedema, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis and immunoglobulin E (IgE) deficiency.</p>
<p>Educated in Romania, Dr. Ferastraoaru completed her medical education at University of Medicine and Pharmacy &ldquo;Carol Davila&rdquo; Bucharest. She then completed her Master in Bioengineering and Biotechnology – Medical and Clinical Engineering at Polytechnic University of Bucharest. She began her postgraduate training with a three-year allergy and clinical immunology residency at Nicolae Malaxa Hospital in Bucharest. She then came to the United States for further training at Einstein, completing a three-year residency in internal medicine followed by a two-year allergy-immunology fellowship.</p>
<p>Dr. Ferastraoaru’s research focus is in allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, local allergic rhinitis, skin rashes, and characterizing patients with IgE deficiency and their associated conditions. She is one of the very few providers in the USA who diagnoses and treats patients with local allergic rhinitis. Dr. Ferastraoaru is also among the very few researchers in the world who is studying IgE deficiency, being invited to lecture about this medical condition at several international meetings. She is mentoring students, residents and fellows in the field of Allergy-Immunology and she has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts and poster presentations. Dr. Ferastraoaru has been featured in different media healthcare platforms, where she provides education materials for patients with allergies.</p>
<p>Dr. Ferastraoaru is board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the New York Allergy and Asthma Society. She has been selected among New York Top Doctors & Rising Stars by <em>New York Times Magazine</em> from 2018 through 2022.</p>

<p>Dr. David Ciocon received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University (cum laude with HIgh Honors in History and Literature) and his M.D. from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Prior to his residency in dermatology, he completed three years of a combined general and plastic surgery residency training at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital as well as a one-year clinical research fellowship in psoriasis at Harvard University, Brigham &amp; Women's Hospital. He subsequently completed a dermatology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident and recipient of the Leo M. Davidoff Award for Excellence in Teaching. He then completed a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology fellowship at Skin Laser &amp; Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey under the guidance of Dr. David Goldberg in 2009.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Since 2013, Dr. Ciocon has served as the Director of Dermatologic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has also serves as the Director of Clinical Operations of the Dermatology Division of the Montefiore Medical Center.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Ciocon is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmestic and Laser Therapy. He is a preceptor in the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Preceptor program.</p>
<p>Dr. Ciocon's clinical interests include Mohs Micrographic surgery, facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, laser-assisted tumescent liposuction, autologous fat transfer, laser medicine, and minimally invasive cosmetic dermatology. He has written multiple peer-reviewed publications and textbooks with respect to surgical and non-surgical approaches to cutaneous oncology, cutaneous reconstruction, and aesthetic rejuvenation.</p>

Biography

<p>David Ciocon, MD, is Director, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology and Director, Clinical Operations, Dermatology Division at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Dermatology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ciocon&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on Mohs micrographic surgery, cutaneous oncology, cosmetic dermatologic surgery and lasers.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1994, Dr. Ciocon earned his Doctor of Medicine at Rutgers University in 2002. He completed an internship and residency in general and plastic surgery at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital in 2005 and became a dermatopharmacology research fellow at Harvard University, Brigham and Women's Hospital until 2006. Following this, Dr. Ciocon completed his dermatology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2009, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. He then completed a Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology fellowship at Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey in 2010.</p><p>Building on his clinical focus, Dr. Ciocon&rsquo;s research is focused on Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic oncology, cosmetic dermatologic surgery and lasers. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters and abstracts. He has also given many national presentations.</p><p>Dr. Ciocon is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology with a subspecialty certification in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, among others. In 2009, Dr. Ciocon received the Leo M. Davidoff Award for Excellence in Teaching.
