<p>David Weithorn, MD, is a general surgeon and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. A fellowship-trained minimally invasive general surgeon, Dr. Weithorn focuses on using minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery, to treat a wide range of surgical diseases, including gallstones (gallbladder removal), hiatal hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, diverticulitis, colon cancer, ventral and inguinal hernias including complex hernias, recurrent ventral and inguinal hernias, and neurectomy procedures for chronic inguinal pain after inguinal hernia repair.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Science from University of Florida in 2011, Dr. Weithorn attended the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2015. He completed his residency in general surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in 2020, then pursued fellowship in robotic/minimally invasive surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, training with pioneers in robotic surgery.</p><p>Dr. Weithorn is interested in outcomes-based research using minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce morbidity and speed recovery for a wide range of general surgical conditions, especially acute and/or emergent surgical conditions. <p>Francis B. Baccay, MD, is an attending surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Baccay&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on general and acute care surgery.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in biology and Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Tulane University in 1989, Dr. Baccay earned his Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College in 1993. He then completed his general surgery internship in 1994 and his general surgery residency in 2000 at New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Baccay remained at this institution to complete a trauma and surgical critical care fellowship in 2001.</p><p>Dr. Baccay&rsquo;s research focuses on surgical education curriculum design and assessment. His work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and oral and poster presentations. He is on the peer review board of the American College of Surgeons, where he is a submissions reviewer for the <em>Journal of the American College of Surgeons</em>. He is also on the peer review board for the Association of American Medical Colleges, where he is a submissions reviewer for MedEd Portal Publications and the Northeast Group on Education Affairs.</p><p>Dr. Baccay is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Association of Surgical Education and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Baccay received the Samuel Rosen Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award in 2018 and the Harry H. Gordon Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching in 2024 from Montefiore Einstein. She is a fellowship-trained colon and rectal surgeon with a clinical focus on care for patients with all disorders of the colon, rectum and anus.</p><p>After earning her Bachelor of Arts at Cornell University in 1996, Dr. Abdelnaby pursued her Doctor of Medicine at Howard University College of Medicine, receiving her degree in 2001. She continued at Howard University Hospital for her postdoctoral training, starting with a year-long internship followed by a four-year general surgery residency, which she completed in 2006. She then attended the University of Southern California, completing a colon and rectal surgery fellowship in 2007.</p><p>Dr. Abdelnaby performs clinical research investigating various topics in colon and rectal surgery. Her original research has been published in several journals and poster presentations, and she has contributed to book chapters and abstracts. She has presented her work regionally, nationally and internationally.
