Myxedema Coma | Montefiore Einstein

Dr. Lewis A. Eisen's research interests include critical care outcomes based research and education research, with specific research interests and clinical expertise in ultrasound, simulation training and airway training.
Dr. Eisen completed his undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed residency, including a year as chief medical resident, at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan. He then did a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Beth Israel as well. Since graduating from fellowship in 2007 he has been a member of the faculty at Einstein/Montefiore, where he is currently Chief of Clinical Affairs. House staff selected him as Outstanding Subspecialty Attending of the Year four times. He is Professor of Medicine. 
Dr. Eisen is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts. His clinical and research interests include simulation training, critical care ultrasound and crew resource management. He has served as faculty for many regional and national critical care ultrasound courses sponsored by the Greater New York Hospital Foundation and the American College of Chest Physicians.

Medical Education: As Associate Dean for Medical Education I collaboratively lead the 4 year curricular, assessment, and program evaluation components at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  I am passionate about innovations that are mission driven and focused on application of knowledge.  In our new curriculum, this has manifested in the creation of 4 new longitudinal courses: service learning, impact, integration, and health systems science.   I am also interested in developing and implementing rational and useful approaches to student assessment that mirror the type of work students will do as physicians and in designing useful mechanisms to evaluate our programs and instructors.  I believe in a humanistic approach to education that fosters the growth and development of faculty leaders and our incredible Einstein students.  
From a scholarly perspective, I work on applying theoretical constructs in business, education, and humanities to broad educational challenges in medical education.

Dr. Noah Bloomgarden received his medical degree from New York Medical College.   Thereafter he completed his internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center, followed by Endocrine fellowship at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  After fellowship, he was recruited to the neuroendocrine tumor program at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care (MECCC) in 2015.   
 
Dr. Bloomgarden is Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship Program. He enjoys teaching, both as a lecturer at the Albert Einstein Medical School and invited speaker nationally.  He also serves as the endocrinology director of the Comprehensive Family Care Center (CFCC) and director of the endocrine tumor program at MECCC. He directs the multidisciplinary thyroid tumor board and co-leads the neuroendocrine tumor board.      Dr. Bloomgarden enjoys managing and teaching all aspects of endocrine disease however his passion is in management of neuroendocrine and endocrine tumors. His research interests focus on endocrine tumors and he has contributed to the writing of many journal articles, abstracts and posters at national endocrine meetings.

Noah A. Bloomgarden, MD, is Associate Professor, Endocrinology and Director, Endocrinology Fellowship Program at Montefiore Einstein. Biography

Maneesha Bangar, MD, is Director, Simulation for Education and Patient Safety in Critical Care and Assistant Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical interests include providing care for complex ICU patients, critical care consults, training house staff in running Rapid Response and Cardiac Arrest Codes emphasizing communication and teamwork skills, training CCM Fellows in airway management, emergency procedures, hands on ultrasound training and multisystem bedside training to efficiently manage emergencies. She is also involved in conducting multidisciplinary in situ simulations for better patient care with other departmentsIn 1999, Dr. Bangar completed her medical education at B.J. Medical College in Pune, Maharashtra, India. She completed her yearlong rotating internship at Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, India in 2000 followed by a job as a Medical Officer in rural India. She then completed a three-year anesthesiology residency at B.J. Medical College in 2004. Dr. Bangar later pursued additional postgraduate training at Montefiore, completing an internal medicine residency in 2012, acting as Chief Resident in her final year, followed by a two-year critical care medicine fellowship, which she completed in 2014.Dr. Bangar’s research includes the applications of simulation to increase efficiency in patient management, uncovering latent safety threats and quality improvement. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts and poster presentations.Dr. Bangar is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Physicians. In 2022, she was awarded Faculty Scholar for the Harvard Macy Program for Educators in Health Professions.
