MSTP Application Process
Step 1
Complete the AMCAS application. Be sure to mark the MD-PhD dual-degree check box on the AMCAS application website and complete the three essays, 1) your Personal Statement, 2) MD/PhD Essay and 3) Scientific Research Experience. Submit your transcripts, letters of recommendation, and MCAT scores to the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). The AMCAS site opens in May for data entry. You can submit your application in early June and we strongly encourage early submission. Complete these steps as early as possible because it increases your chances to obtain an interview
For admission to the class entering in June 2025:
- Latest date for AMCAS application submission - Oct. 15
- Deadline for submitting transcripts to AMCAS - Nov. 1
- Oldest acceptable MCAT score - April 2021
- Newest acceptable MCAT score - Sept. 2024
- Deadline for application completion - Dec. 1
Step 2
MSTP applicants must submit two confidential letters of reference from past research mentors. If you have only worked in one laboratory, then indicate "only worked in one laboratory" on the Secondary application where we ask you to identify the names of your past research mentor references. These letters must be submitted through the AMCAS Letter Writer system.
Step 3
Following completion of your AMCAS application the Einstein Admissions Office will send you an email with instructions to complete the online Einstein MD/MSTP Secondary. Complete the Secondary application asap.
All application materials must be received by the admissions office by December 1. We have a rolling review of applications for interview, so early submission is strongly recommended.
The Einstein MSTP welcomes applications from all individuals. Einstein seeks to create a safe and supportive community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Einstein has a longstanding commitment to providing outstanding, state of the art, compassionate care to the Bronx community that we serve. In his 1951 letter agreeing to allow the newly formed College of Medicine to be named in his honor, Professor Albert Einstein stated, "...it will welcome students of all creeds and races." We continue to uphold Professor Einstein's vision for the role of the medical school and of science to make the world a better place for everyone.. Individuals with disabilities are also encouraged to apply. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities but all accepted applicants must be able to meet the technical standards established by the Licensing Committee on Medical Education. Several current students have disabilities. Questions about accommodations should be addressed to the Office of Academic Support and Counseling.

Application Review - Interview Process
Completed applications are reviewed by the MSTP Admissions Committee as they
are received. A subset of applicants will be invited to interview. All
interviews are virtual over a Thursday and Friday. On Thursday afternoon, a
current student delivers a presentation about the Einstein MSTP and answers
questions. Then applicants meet with the program director. Finally, they
have “dinner†with a group of current students utilizing Zoom breakout
rooms. All interviews take place on Friday. There are two formal interviews
with members of the MSTP Admissions Committee and a series of informal
meetings with faculty of the applicant's choice. Applicants have a Zoom
“lunch†with groups of current MSTP students.
The MSTP Admissions Committee meets periodically between November and
January to discuss and rank the applicants who have been interviewed.
Acceptances are offered on a rolling basis starting in December through
mid-May. Those applicants who are accepted by mid-March are invited to
attend an in-person revisit at Einstein at our expense. Applicants accepted
after the Revisit are invited for individual visits at our expense.
Waitlisted applicants are reconsidered as the admissions cycle progresses.
We enroll approximately 15 first-year students each year.
If you have any questions, please contact the MSTP office at (718) 430-2129
or e-mail Maria Cuesta, MSTP Program Coordinator, at maria.alamo@einsteinmed.edu.
