Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

Interview and Revisit

INTERVIEWS FOR CLASS ENTERING IN 2024

We will conduct virtual interviews for the class entering in June 2023. We will use Zoom software for our group meetings and individual interviews. We understand that internet access is variable and identifying quiet places for interviews may be an issue for both applicants and interviewers, so do not worry if you have trouble identifying an ideal location for your interviews. We will be flexible and understanding to get through this process in an optimal manner. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact us prior to your interviews.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE

Our interviews run from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. We view the interview days as a two-way process. They allow applicants to learn about the Einstein MSTP and they give us an opportunity to evaluate applicants. Applicants have an opportunity to meet current students and the program director to learn about the Einstein MSTP. Applicants also meet with faculty whose research interests align with theirs. In addition, there will be two formal interviews with members of the MSTP Admissions Committee.

Thursday Afternoon

  • Current Student Presentation. A current MSTP student provides a student view of the Einstein MSTP and answers applicant's questions.
  • Meeting with Program Director. Dr. Myles Akabas, the Einstein MSTP Program Director, describes the program from his perspective and answers applicant's questions.
  • Dinner with Current Students. Using Zoom Breakout Rooms, groups of applicants have dinner with groups of current students.

Friday/Interview Day

  • 10-12 p.m. Formal and Informal Interviews.
  • 12-1 p.m. Lunch with current students.
  • 1-5 p.m. Formal and Informal Interviews continue.
  • 5:15 p.m. Wrap up meeting with Dr. Myles Akabas, Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program.

Revisit

Applicants who are accepted by the MSTP program will be invited to revisit Einstein. The revisit date will be Friday March 22, 2024. We hope that it will be an in-person revisit, but the COVID situation may alter this. If you are unable to attend on the revisit date you should contact us and we can make individual arrangements. Travel expenses and hotel accommodations for the revisit are paid by the program. The revisit begins in the evening with a dinner hosted by current MSTP students. The following day you will have an opportunity to meet with the Director, MSTP students and additional faculty of your choice. This is an opportunity to speak with potential thesis research mentors. This visit will provide you with a more relaxed opportunity to appreciate the strengths of the Einstein MSTP program than you had on your initial visit on Interview Day.

Information on traveling to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine can be found here.

Multiple Accept Deadline On or before April 15, please narrow your selection(s) to no more than three schools or programs, and withdraw your acceptance(s) from all other schools or programs. By AAMC Rules # 9 & 10, the multiple accept deadline for MD-PhD programs is April 30. As of April 30 you may only hold one acceptance in an MD-PhD or MD program. As of April 30th, you are not required to withdraw from programs where you are waitlisted, however, if you plan to attend the Einstein MSTP, you must withdraw from all other MD-PhD and MD programs to which you have been accepted by April 30. As of April 30th, if you plan to matriculate in the Einstein MSTP, you must choose "Plan to Enroll" in the AAMC Choose your Medical School tool. If this creates a significant hardship please contact the Program Director, Myles Akabas. Likewise, we would appreciate knowing at the earliest possible time if you have decided to matriculate elsewhere. By May 15, 2024 we require that all applicants who plan to matriculate in the Einstein MSTP will choose "Commit to Enroll" in the AAMC Choose your Medical School tool. Acceptances will be rescinded if you do not choose "Commit to Enroll" by May 15, 2024. You may choose "Commit to Enroll" at any time during the admission process, but if you do so we expect that you will have withdrawn your application from all other MD and MD-PhD programs including waitlists.
