<p>Robert Beil, MD, is Medical Director, CICERO Program, Medical Director, Montefiore Einstein Transgender Health Program and Co-Medical Director, Montefiore Einstein Prevention Program at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As a General Internist, Dr. Beil has provided primary care to residents of the South Bronx for over 30 years. He has particular interest in HIV care and HIV prevention.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in biology 1988 from Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Beil earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in 1993. He then came to Montefiore for his internship and residency in internal medicine from 1993 to 1996.</p><p>Dr. Beil's research focuses on HIV. He has been principal investigator on a number of research projects, and his work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations.</p><p>Dr. Beil is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He has been listed as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor from 2015 until 2024.</p>

<p>Dr. Akiyama is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinician-Investigator in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In addition to providing care and treatment to people living with HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and substance use disorders, Dr. Akiyama conducts research focusing on HCV among socioeconomically marginalized populations with particular emphasis on the intersection of HCV in the criminal legal system and sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Akiyama is the recipient of a K99/R00 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to develop and test an innovative strategy to improve linkage to and retention in HCV treatment among individuals recently released from jail. He is also the recipient of an Avenir Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse focused on HCV Transmission Networks Among People Who Inject Drugs.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Akiyama&nbsp;completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at New York University/Bellevue Hospital Center and a Master of Science in Medical Anthropology at University College London in London, England.&nbsp;</p>
