<p>I am a board certified hematologist and medical oncologist. I specialize in caring for patients with hematologic malignancies and specifically myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and aplastic anemia (AA).</p>
<p>I have a strong interest in exploring novel treatment approaches for myelodysplatic syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) after the failure of therapy with hypomethylating agents. I specifically focus on therapeutically targetting the transcription factor STAT3 in MDS and AML.</p>
<p>My research was previously funded through the NIH Paul Calabresi Career Development Award (K12) &amp; currently through the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS)-TRP Award &amp; MDS Foundation Gilbert Bruce Smith Young Investigator Award.</p>
<p>My original research and reviews have been published in leading peer reviewed journals that include Blood, JCI, Nature Reviews Cancer &amp; Lancet Hematology.&nbsp; I have been an invited speaker at several conferences and forums nationally as well as internationally.</p>

<p>Kerry Morrone, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Director of the Sickle Cell Program and the Director of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program at Montefiore. Dr. Morrone focuses on classical hematology, particularly sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies, platelet disorders, thrombosis, and bone marrow failure syndromes.</p><p>Dr. Morrone graduated from New York University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 2003. She then attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Medicine in 2007 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Morrone completed her pediatric residency, chief residency, and pediatric hematology oncology fellowship all at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has also been recognized for her teaching efforts many times and won the Leo M. Davidoff Society &ndash; Albert Einstein College of Medicine Teaching Award in 2010 and 2015.</p><p>Dr. Morrone is committed to improving quality of care and health care utilization in chronic illness, particularly sickle cell disease, and thalassemia through her research. Other current research interests include pulmonary complications of sickle cell disease particularly asthma and acute chest syndrome, in addition to infectious complications and thrombotic complications of sickle cell disease.</p>

<p>William Beau Mitchell, MD, is Director, Hemostasis and Thrombosis at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Mitchell&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on pediatric hematology, particularly bleeding and clotting disorders, with a special interest and expertise in platelet disorders.</p><p>After earning his Doctor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in 1994, Dr. Mitchell completed a pediatric internship at Boston Medical Center in 1995, followed by his pediatric residency at the same institution in 1997. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2001 and a research fellowship in the laboratory of blood and vascular biology at Rockefeller University in 2006.</p><p>Dr. Mitchell&rsquo;s clinical research interests include novel therapies for rare blood disorders, hematological manifestations of disease, and transition from pediatric to adult care for patients with rare blood disorders. His basic science research interests include mechanisms of action of novel immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) therapies, platelet function in sickle cell disease, and the production of platelets from stem cells. Dr. Mitchell has been principal investigator and site principal investigator on a number of research projects, and he has given several national and international presentations. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, books, chapters, and monographs, and he is an Associate Editor for Nature Pediatric Research. He is also a reviewer for many scientific journals, including the <em>Journal of Pediatrics: X</em>, <em>Pediatric Blood and Cancer</em> and the <em>Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis</em>.</p><p>Dr. Mitchell is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the International Society for Hemostasis and Thrombosis (ISTH), and the American Society for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (ASPHO). Dr. Mitchell has received two U.S. patents for his work in &ldquo;Regulation of Integrin Surface Expression&rdquo; and &ldquo;Megakaryocyte and Platelet Production from Stem Cells.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Deepa Manwani, MD, is Director, Pediatric Hematology at Children?s Hospital at Montefiore, as well as a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Manwani?s clinical focus is on benign hematology, anemia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, hemophilia, bleeding disorders, thrombosis, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, ITP, erythrocytosis and leukocytosis. </p><p>Dr. Manwani graduated from B.J. Medical College, Poona University, India, in 1991, earning her Doctor of Medicine. She became a Research Assistant at the Children?s Hospital Oakland in 1991 before beginning an internship in Pediatrics at NSUH-Cornell University Med Center in 1993. Following her internship, Dr. Manwani completed a residency in Pediatrics at the same institution. In 1996, she began a fellowship in Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. </p><p>Dr. Manwani?s research focuses on fetal hemoglobin activating agents, adhesive cellular interactions in vaso-occlusion in sickle cell disease (SCD) and contribution of neutrophils to SCD pathophysiology. She completed the R01 funded Phase 1 study of IVIG in the treatment of SCD vaso-occlusive crises and is currently leading the R01 funded Phase II study. Dr. Manwani is currently participating in studies aimed at increased adherence to hydroxyurea and improved transition to adult care. She is also collaborating with investigators at Case Western Reserve University on an NHLBI R01 funded study to standardize monitoring of cellular adhesion in SCD patients using a novel microfluidic assay. Her contributions have been recognized by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patient Network of New York in the form of the Distinguished Service Award in March 2015. Dr. Manwani?s studies have been published nationally in various reviewed journals and books. </p><p>Dr. Manwani has received many awards, including Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2016, New York Magazine Best Doctor and New York Metro Area?s Top Doctors in 2017. </p>

<p>Konstantinos Loupasakis, MD, is an attending rheumatologist at Montefiore Einstein and Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director and Associate Professor, Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Loupasakis sees patients with a wide range of rheumatologic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus and multisystem sarcoidosis.</p><p>In 2007, Dr. Loupasakis earned his medical doctorate at University of Crete in Greece. He later came to the United States to further his medical training, completing his medical residency at Steward St. Elizabeth&rsquo;s Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in 2012, followed by his rheumatology fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in 2015 and a yearlong research fellowship at the same institution in 2016.</p><p>Dr. Loupasakis' research focus includes multisystem sarcoidosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and medical education.
