Biography

<p>John McGinley, PhD, FAES, is Director, Neuropsychology, Comprehensive Epilepsy Management Center at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. McGinley's clinical focus includes the presurgical neuropsychological assessment of adults and children with epilepsy, the multidisciplinary administration of the Wada procedure and the facilitation of intraoperative language mapping. He also performs presurgical neuropsychological evaluations of patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, such as dystonia and essential tremor to assist with the determination of deep brain stimulation (DBS) suitability. Dr. McGinley also conducts brief neuropsychological evaluations for the assessment of dementia at the Center for the Aging Brain (CAB) as part of a multidisciplinary team of Neurologists, Geriatricians and Neuropsychologists.</p><p>After he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Saint Peter's College in 1989, Dr. McGinley earned his Master of Science in applied psychology with a research concentration from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1992. He earned his Master of Social Work at the City University of New York in 1996 and combined his clinical and research interests through the attainment of a scientist-practitioner Doctor of Philosophy in clinical health psychology at Yeshiva University. in 2001. Dr. McGinley completed his psychology internship at St. Charles Hospital &amp; Rehabilitation Center in 2001, with postdoctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology at private practices in Long Island and New Jersey in 2007.</p><p>Dr. McGinley&rsquo;s research focuses on epilepsy surgery outcomes, the impact of deep brain stimulation, the identification of biomarkers for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), shared cognitive pathways in epilepsy and autism and the impact of medications on neurological diseases such as systemic lupus. Dr. McGinley is a co-investigator for the Montefiore Einstein research project, &ldquo;Effects of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) on Cognitive and Emotional Behaviors,&rdquo; and is a collaborator on another project titled &ldquo;Vocal Biomarker Discovery for Mild Cognitive Impairment Detection.&rdquo; He is also the developer of a modified Wada procedure for &ldquo;standard-of-care&rdquo; presurgical epilepsy assessment in persons with early-onset visual impairment/blindness (VI/B). His work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and invited presentations.</p><p>Dr. McGinley is a Licensed Psychologist and a Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society (FAES) and currently serves as a member of the AES Annual Conference&rsquo;s Pediatric Content Committee. He is also a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). In 2016, Dr. McGinley was selected to attend the inaugural &ldquo;International Training Course on Neuropsychology in Epilepsy&rdquo; at Ch&acirc;teau de Rosay, France, sponsored by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).</p>

<p>Dr. Gary Kennedy is the Vice Chair for Education and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and Fellowship Training Program at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. More than sixty psychiatrists with subspecialty training in geriatrics have graduated from this program.</p>
<p>Dr. Kennedy&rsquo;s research has focused on cardiac arrhythmias, the epidemiology of depression and dementia, mental health care in nursing homes, primary care sites and in the community, and novel communications approaches between health care providers. He has authored numerous publications on late-life mental health and has given numerous invited presentations to educational, scientific, and public policy organizations in the United States and abroad.</p>
<p>Dr. Kennedy's numerous professional awards and achievements include the following:</p>

<li>He has served as a consultant to the New York State Commission on Life and the Law regarding physician-assisted suicide and to the Law Revision Commission regarding guardianship procedures in New York State mental health law.</li>

<li>He has been a member of the American Psychiatric Association Council on Aging.</li>

<li>He has appeared on National Public Radio and the Today Show with Katie Couric.</li>

<p>Gary J. Kennedy, MD, is Director, Geriatric Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program and Vice Chair for Education and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus centers on depression and dementia, caregiver support and holocaust survivors. He also teaches nursing homes and collaborates with community-based agencies.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970, Dr. Kennedy earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1975. He remained there to complete a psychiatry residency in 1979 before moving to Montefiore to complete a psychobiology research fellowship in psychosomatic medicine in 1981. Following this, Dr. Kennedy completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Montefiore in 1983.</p><p>Building on his clinical focus, Dr. Kennedy&rsquo;s research is focused on cardiac arrhythmias, the epidemiology of depression and dementia, mental health care in nursing homes and primary care sites and in the community. He has a longstanding interest in improving communication between healthcare providers, especially around issues of depression and dementia care for both patients and their families. Dr. Kennedy&rsquo;s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed citations, and he has considerable experience in the evaluation of research applications as well as mentoring new investigators.</p><p>Dr. Kennedy has won many awards for his work, including the Leo and Julia Forchheimer Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. In 2023, he was named in America&rsquo;s Most Honored Doctors by The American Registry and in Castle Connolly&rsquo;s Top Doctors.</p>

<p>Teresa Hsu-Walklet, PhD, is an Attending Psychologist for the Behavioral Health Integration Program (BHIP) at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and an Instructor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Biography

<p>Neal D. Hoffman, MD, is an Attending Physician in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics at Montefiore (CHAM), and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical focus is in general pediatrics and adolescent medicine, with interests in school-based health care, chronic illness management and reproductive and sexual health. Dr. Hoffman joined Montefiore's School Health Program in 2002, where he was Medical Director from 2005-2017. Dr. Hoffman was the Medical Director at Montefiore's Adolescent AIDS Program from 1994 to 2001. </p><p>Dr. Hoffman attended Boston University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine in 1987. He completed a Medical Internship at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, he was Pediatric Resident at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, after which he was Pediatric Chief Resident for one year. From 1992-1994, Dr. Hoffman completed a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. </p><p>Dr. Hoffman is currently the Principal Investigator of a 5-year NIDA-funded R01 Implementation Science Project on universal HIV testing and targeted HIV prevention protocol in school-based health centers. He completed a fellowship in 2016-2017 in Practice-Based Research Methodology through an AHRQ-funded program at Case Western University Medical Center, when he started developing a research study to compare adolescent and parent responses for assessment of asthma severity and control. Dr. Hoffman participated in the Performance Improvement Course at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore in 2018. Dr. Hoffman's research has been published in numerous reviewed journals and articles, book chapters, and abstracts. </p><p>In 2013, Dr. Hoffman received the Bronx Community Health Network Community Health Leadership Award. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. He is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. </p>

Dr. Herrick&rsquo;s career has focused on improving access to psychiatric services across the lifespan by supporting and leading the integration of mental health services into primary care practices.</p><p>After obtaining his Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from Columbia University School of General Studies in 2004, Dr. Herrick earned his Doctor of Medicine at New York Medical College in 2008. He completed his residency in general psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2011, followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the same institution in 2013.</p><p>Dr. Herrick is board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. </p>
