Biography

<p>David S. Geller is a board-certified orthopedic oncologist who specializes in the treatment of both pediatric and adult patients with bone and soft-tissue tumors. He has been a full-time faculty member at Montefiore since 2006. He is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine.</p><p>Dr. Geller is known for his expertise in musculoskeletal tumor surgery, with specific experience in bone and soft-tissue sarcomas, such as osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, liposarcoma and synovial sarcoma. He has extensive experience in managing patients with metastatic carcinoma of the bone as well. He routinely offers limb-salvage surgery using a wide array of reconstructive tools.</p><p>Dr. Geller earned his medical degree from Tel Aviv University's Sackler School of Medicine and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore. He received his fellowship training from the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Oncology Program, which included Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.</p><p>Dr. Geller serves as the Associate Director of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Research Laboratory at Montefiore. He leads numerous translational research efforts designed to investigate the pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms of bone and soft tissue cancers. He is interested in improved surgical techniques and novel therapeutic approaches for primary malignant bone tumors. He is actively involved in collaborative clinical trials both nationally and internationally.</p><p>Dr. Geller is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Muskuloskeletal Tumor Society, Connective Tissue Oncology Society, Children's Oncology Group, American Orthopedic Association, and the American Association for Cancer Research.</p>

<p>Dr. Ellen Friedman&rsquo;s passion is the study of the blood (hematology) and ensuring that the next generation of medical practitioners are prepared to analyze and treat blood-related problems.</p>
<p>Dr. Friedman has been the Hematology Fellowship Director of Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine since 2005. She completed a fellowship in hematology at New York University, specializing in the conditions of red cells, platelets and hematologic malignancies. She has been engaged in diagnosing and treating these conditions while simultaneously teaching medical students, medical residents and fellows in the skills and knowledge required. She trained at New York Hospital/Cornell, Bellevue, New York University and has been an attending physician in teaching programs in New York City her entire career. She has 40 years of experience in caring for patients in the Bronx both in the city hospitals and at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Friedman also educates patients, lecturing nationally for National Organization of Rare Diseases and the Aplastic Anemia &amp; MDS International Foundation.</p>
<p>Dr. Friedman was elected Fellow in the American College of Physicians and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Einstein. Her teaching has been recognized with the Best Teacher Award by the hematology-oncology fellows. Her research has focused on a variety of blood conditions including anemia, thrombocytopenia, myelodysplastic syndrome, and the safe performance of the bone marrow procedure.</p>

Biography

<p>Jennifer G. Davila, MD, is Co-Director, Hemophilia Treatment Center at Montefiore Einstein and Associate Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Davila focuses on the care of children with bleeding and clotting disorders.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in psychobiology from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2000, Dr. Davila earned her Doctor of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine in 2007. She completed her pediatrics internship and residency at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 2010. Dr. Davila continued her medical training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center/Weill-Cornell Medical College, completing a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship in 2013 where she was Chief Fellow in her final year. She also completed a research fellowship at the same institution in 2014.</p><p>Dr. Davila's research focuses on thrombosis prevention in children. She has been primary investigator and co-primary investigator on funded research projects, and has shared her work through numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations.</p><p>Dr. Davila is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology Oncology. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, among others. She sits on the board of the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network, is co-chair of the Pediatric sub-committee of the Venous Thromboembolism Network of the United States and is a member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation.</p>

<p>Dr. Mark Chaitowitz obtained his medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He relocated to the United States in 2001, where he completed his residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and fellowship in hematology and oncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, both in Philadelphia.</p>
<p>In 2013 Dr. Chaitowitz joined the Division of Hematology as an Assistant Professor. He sees patients with a wide range of blood disorders, both benign and malignant. He has a special interest in platelet disorders, as well as in the management of iron deficiency anemia, his area of clinical research.</p>

<p>Dr. Henny Billett has been Chief of the Division of Hematology since 2012 and Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pathology since 2002.</p>
<p>Dr. Billett's clinical research interests are in risk factors for thrombosis and microvascular disease, with emphasis on epidemiological aspects and outcomes research.</p>

<p>Dr. Billett completed an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania cum laude; medical school Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London. She was a Senior House Officer at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, and completed her training at Montefiore.</p>

Biography

<p>Maneesha Bangar, MD, is Director, Simulation for Education and Patient Safety in Critical Care and Assistant Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical interests include providing care for complex ICU patients, critical care consults, training house staff in running Rapid Response and Cardiac Arrest Codes emphasizing communication and teamwork skills, training CCM Fellows in airway management, emergency procedures, hands on ultrasound training and multisystem bedside training to efficiently manage emergencies. She is also involved in conducting multidisciplinary in situ simulations for better patient care with other departments</p><p>In 1999, Dr. Bangar completed her medical education at B.J. Medical College in Pune, Maharashtra, India. She completed her yearlong rotating internship at Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, India in 2000 followed by a job as a Medical Officer in rural India. She then completed a three-year anesthesiology residency at B.J. Medical College in 2004. Dr. Bangar later pursued additional postgraduate training at Montefiore, completing an internal medicine residency in 2012, acting as Chief Resident in her final year, followed by a two-year critical care medicine fellowship, which she completed in 2014.</p><p>Dr. Bangar&rsquo;s research includes the applications of simulation to increase efficiency in patient management, uncovering latent safety threats and quality improvement. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts and poster presentations.</p><p>Dr. Bangar is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Physicians. In 2022, she was awarded Faculty Scholar for the Harvard Macy Program for Educators in Health Professions.</p>
