<p>Dennis L. Cooper, MD, is Chief, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus centers on treating patients with multiple myeloma, hodgkin's lymphoma, non-hodgkin's lymphoma including bone marrow transplantation and CAR T cell therapy.</p><p>After graduating from Loyola University of Chicago in 1975, Dr. Cooper completed his Doctor of Medicine at Rush Medical College in 1979. He then went to Yale-New Haven Hospital to complete his internship and residencies in internal medicine in 1982. Dr. Cooper became Chief Resident in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in 1983, and then participated in a medical oncology fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, completing it in 1985.</p><p>Dr. Cooper&rsquo;s research focuses on clinical trials for multiple myeloma and lymphoma and in the area of bone marrow transplant, he is interested in the use of alternative donor transplants (for patients who don&rsquo;t have a family match) as well as the impact of social determinants of health. Recently, he has published studies involving COVID-19 vaccine responses in patients with plasma cell dyscrasias after complete vaccination, persistent opioid use in patients with multiple myeloma post ASCT and posttransplant cyclophosphamide as part of standard immunoprophylaxis for all allogeneic transplants. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals and articles.</p><p>Dr. Cooper is a member of the American Society of Hematology and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He has won multiple awards, including the Yale Cancer Center Clinical Excellence award from Yale Cancer Center in 2010 and the Vida Award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2018.</p>

<p>Roberto Alejandro Sica, MD, is an Attending Physician at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining the Montefiore team, Dr. Sica&rsquo;s clinical focus has been on chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies, immunotherapies and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, central nervous system (CNS) lymphomas and HIV, ATLL and gene therapy for malignant and nonmalignant hematologic disorders. Dr. Sica is a member of the Bone Marrow Transplant team at Montefiore.</p><p>Dr. Sica attended the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine, where he received his Medical Degree. During his time there, he also served as an instructor of immunology, virology, pharmacology, and physical diagnosis. Dr. Sica began his postgraduate training with a residency in Internal Medicine at the Carney Hospital/Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he received the E. Donnall Thomas Achievement in Medicine Award for his academic performance and the Edward Jenner Innovation in Medicine Award in recognition of his innovative contributions to the design of clinical protocols and trials. Later, he completed a fellowship in Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies at Stanford University. At that institution, he performed research with Dr. Sally Arai on Hodgkin's lymphoma using the Stanford-pioneered GN-BVC regimen (Gemcitabine, Vinorelbine-BCNU. Etoposide and Cyclophosphamide) which resulted in decreased toxicity and improved overall survival in patients. His work has been published in various review journals and abstracts.</p><p>Dr. Sica&rsquo;s research focuses on novel cellular therapies, allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for malignant and nonmalignant hematologic disorders, and combination immunotherapy and cancer vaccine.</p><p>Dr. Sica is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.</p>

Biography

<p>Nishi Shah, MD, MPH, is an attending physician, Oncology, and Assistant Professor at Montefiore-Einstein. Her clinical focus is on the treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies, with particular focus in plasma cell disorders and B-cell malignancies. She utilizes novel targeted agents, stem cell transplant and cell therapies in the treatment of patients.
</p><p>After earning her medical degree at Grand Medical College in Mumbai, India in 2011, Dr. Shah attended the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, earning her Master of Public Health in 2014. She then pursued postgraduate training at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, completing her internal medicine internship in 2015 and her internal medicine residency in 2017. She then came to Montefiore to pursue a hematology-oncology fellowship, completing it in 2020.
</p><p>Dr. Shah&rsquo;s research focuses on improving access to care and addressing gaps in health equity for patients with hematologic malignancies as well as exploring methods to improve patient access to clinical trials. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, and poster presentations. Dr. Shah is also an ad hoc reviewer for several journals including Acta Hematologica, Leukemia and Lymphoma, and Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia.
</p><p>Dr. Shah is board certified in hematology and medical oncology, and is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.
