Biography

<p>Javier Ariel Laurini, MD, is Associate Professor, Pathology at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Laurini's clinical focus is on the study of tissue to diagnose inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the breast, gynecologic tract and bone and soft tissues.</p>

<p>After earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1995 from the University Of Salvador, School Of Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Laurini completed a residency in anatomic pathology in 1999 at the Center of Medical Education and Clinical Investigations (CEMIC) in Buenos Aires. Following this, he completed a three-month internship in hematopathology service at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Laurini became Administrative Chief Resident in the department of pathology at CEMIC for one year before completing a surgical pathology fellowship at British Hospital in Buenos Aires in 2002. He then became a visiting clinician in the Department of Pathology, Mayo Clinic in Rochester before undergoing a combined anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, which he completed in 2010. Dr. Laurini then finished a fellowship in surgical pathology at the Mayo Clinic in 2011 before completing another fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2012.</p>

<p>Dr. Laurini's research focus follows his clinical interests in breast and gynecologic pathology. His work has been published in numerous original communications and peer-reviewed journals, articles and abstracts.</p>

<p>Dr. Laurini is board certified in Hematology and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board Of Pathology. He is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He is also part of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association. Dr. Laurini has won multiple faculty teaching awards from the University of South Alabama and Wake Forest School of Medicine. In 2022 he won the Attending Teaching Award from Einstein.</p>

<p>Neil D. Herbsman, MD, FAGA, FACP, is an attending physician and Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Herbsman&rsquo;s clinical focus is in colon cancer screening, peptic ulcer disease, diverticular disease, reflux, colonoscopy, endoscopy and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, intestines and colon.</p><p>After receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1985, Dr. Herbsman attended Mount Sinai School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1989. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1992, and his gastroenterology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering in 1995.</p><p>Dr. Herbsman&rsquo;s research focuses on colon cancer screening. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals.</p><p>Dr. Herbsman is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Physicians. She has been involved in resident education at Montefiore since her days as Education Chief Resident within the Residency Program, when she created the Resident-Faculty Mentor Program. She served as Associate Program Director for 7 years and is currently the Program Director for the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency Program at Montefiore Health System. Dr. H&eacute;bert is also dedicated to medical school education, having previously co-directed the second-year medical school Reproductive Systems course from 2012-2018. She currently contributes to the medical school as a co-chair of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Admissions Committee, member of the medical school Executive Committee, and representative on the faculty Senate Council.&nbsp; Dr. H&eacute;bert was elected by her peers to the Leo M. <p>Dr. Galen graduated from Brown University with honors in the biological sciences and earned an M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. &nbsp;He trained in internal medicine at Yale University where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and was the class speaker at residency graduation. &nbsp;He joined Montefiore and Einstein in 2013 as a teaching attending in Hospital Medicine</p>
<p>Dr. Galen is an Associate Program Director in The Einstein/Montefiore Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Director of Firm 3 and the Director of ultrasound and procedure training. &nbsp;In 2015 Dr. Galen received the Sharon R. Silbiger Faculty Teaching Award from the Einstein residents. &nbsp;He has led hundreds of resident teaching conferences and has worked to formalize curricula for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and bedside procedures, such as lumbar puncture and paracentesis. &nbsp;Dr. Galen has taught in the EPHEM, Microbiology, and PDC classes at Einstein. &nbsp;He has led translational research on recurrent meningitis, collaborting with members of Betsy Herold's laboratory. He has co-authored over 20 original research studies. &nbsp;Dr. Galen is passionate about medical case reports and he has mentored residents and junior faculty in the process of publishing cases in a variety of venues. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Galen is the editor-in-chief of <em>POCUS Journal (</em><a href="https://pocusjournal.com/">https://pocusjournal.com/)</a>, the world's leading peer-reviewed, open-access publication for point-of-care ultrasound. &nbsp;He teaches POCUS nationally at a variety of workshops and conferences.&nbsp;</p>

Biography

<p>Joseph Frager, MD, is an Attending Physician in Gastroenterology and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Frager specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the colon and upper gastrointestinal tract including colon polyps, diverticulitis, peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux and gallstones.</p><p>After earning his Doctor of Medicine from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1980, Dr. Frager came to Montefiore for his postgraduate training. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency in 1983, followed by his fellowship in gastroenterology in 1985.</p><p>Dr. Frager&rsquo;s research focus is on the immunology of the gastrointestinal tract. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journals and abstracts.</p><p>Dr. Frager is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association and the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.</p>

Biography

<p>Susan Fineberg, MD, is an Attending Pathologist, Section Head Breast Pathology and Associate Professor, Pathology at Montefiore Einstein. An integral member of the multidisciplinary breast program leadership team, Dr. Fineberg&rsquo;s clinical focus is the study of tissue to diagnose breast disease, both neoplastic and benign.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from State University of New York (SUNY) Binghamton in 1983, Dr. Fineberg pursued her medical degree at SUNY Stonybrook School of Medicine, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1987. She completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at New York University Medical Center in 1992, followed by an oncologic surgical pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1993.</p><p>Dr. Fineberg's research focus includes biomarker development in invasive breast cancer, particularly in the neoadjuvant setting, prognostic and predictive markers for ductal carcinoma in situ progression and recurrence, the role of immune response in breast cancer progression, and standardization of practice among breast pathologists. She has over 60 peer-reviewed publications on breast disease, has authored book chapters on the subject and has presented her work at national meetings.</p><p>Dr. Fineberg is board certified and is an active member of many national and international pathology organizations including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the International Society of Breast Disease and the International TILs Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group for Breast Cancer.</p>
