<p>Jacqueline Weingarten-Arams, MD, is an attending physician and Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Weingarten-Arams&rsquo; pediatric critical care expertise focuses on cardiac critical care, acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, nutrition in critical illness and energy expenditure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (quality CPR) and extracorporeal life support (ECMO).</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in nutritional biochemistry at Cornell University in 1982, Dr. Weingarten-Arams earned her Doctor of Medicine at the same institution in 1986. She then completed her pediatric residency at Columbia University in 1990, where she was Chief Resident in her final year. Following this, Dr. Weingarten-Arams completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at New York Hospital Cornell University Medical College in 1996.</p><p>Dr. Weingarten-Arams research focus includes the use of deliberate simulated practice in improving outcomes in pediatric critical illness, pediatric resuscitation and pediatric airway management. Her other projects involve chronic critical illness, bioethics in pediatric critical care and oxidative injury in respiratory failure. She has been principal investigator and co-investigator on several research projects, and her work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications and invited presentations.</p><p>Dr. Weingarten-Arams is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Chest Physicians. She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Weingarten-Arams has been named in Castle Connolly&rsquo;s &ldquo;Top Doctors: New York Metro Area&rdquo; for multiple years. In 2006, she was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society and in 2019, Dr. Weingarten-Arams won the William Obrinsky Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education.</p>

<p>Jennie Valles, MD, is Director, Medical Informatics at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and Assistant Professor, Neurology and Physical Medication and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Valles&rsquo; clinical focus is on neurorehabilitation with particular expertise in spinal cord injury, stroke and brain injury medicine.</p><p>After completing her Bachelor of Science in biology at University of North Florida in 2005, Dr. Valles attended the American University of the Caribbean in Sint Maarten, NA, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2010. She then completed her neurology residency at Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College in 2014. Thereafter, she then pursued her neurorehabilitation fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, completing it in 2016. She also completed her Advanced Certificate in Clinical and Translational Investigation with Weill Cornell Medical College Clinical &amp; Translational Science Center the same year.</p><p>Dr. Valles&rsquo; research interests include exploring new modalities for post-stroke aphasia such as non-invasive brain stimulation. She is also involved with other studies and projects related to bladder and bowel management for people living with spinal cord injuries. She has shared her research through peer-reviewed journals, poster presentations, invited presentations and select mass-media publications. Dr. Valles is also a scientific reviewer for the <em>American Journal of Physical Medicine &amp; Rehabilitation</em>.</p><p>Dr. Valles is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and has subspecialty certification in Brain Injury Medicine. <p>Dr. Ushay is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. </p><p>After obtaining a PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University, Dr. Ushay received his MD from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and completed a Pediatrics residency in the Montefiore-Jacobi-Einstein program. After serving as Chief Resident and a Fellow in Pediatric Pulmonology at Montefiore, he completed a Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center in 1993. He was a faculty member at NewYork-Presbyterian and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospitals from 1993 to 2005, and he served as Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Director and Medical Director of the Pediatric Observation Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. </p><p>In 2005 Dr. Ushay became Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Unit in The Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Ushay is involved in increasing pediatric ICU surge capacity through the New York City Pediatric Disaster Coalition, serving on its Central Leadership Council and teaching the Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support Course. Through the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Dr. Ushay works on employing medical countermeasures safely for children in the event of chemical, biological or radiological disaster. Sponsored by Surgeons of Hope and Children&rsquo;s HeartLink, Dr. Ushay has worked as a cardiac intensivist in Cambodia, Africa, China and Nicaragua. </p>

Biography

<p>Andrew Joshua Kobets, MD, is Attending Physician at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kobets specializes in pediatric neurological surgery with a focus on minimally invasive tumor resection, neuro-endoscopy for hydrocephalus, craniofacial reconstruction, Chiari malformation surgery, tethered cord syndrome repair, and pediatric cranial trauma management.</p><p>In 2005, Dr. Kobets received his Bachelor of Arts in systems neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. From 2007 to 2012, he attended Yale University. During this time, he received his Master of Health Sciences and Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Kobets began his postgraduate training in 2012 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and continued to train there until 2019. He began with a year-long internship in neurological surgery. He then completed a 6-year residency in neurological surgery, becoming Chief Resident in the final year. In 2019, Dr. Kobets began a year-long fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.</p><p>Dr. Kobets&rsquo; research aims to develop a model of hydrocephalus secondary to intraventricular hemorrhage to trial the use of cutting-edge therapies to prevent life-long shunt dependence in children with hydrocephalus. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, books and abstracts, and has been presented internationally at invited presentations.</p><p>The Norma Bailey Berniker Prize was given to Dr. Kobets by the Yale School of Medicine in 2012. In 2018, Dr. Kobets received the Fred Epstein Award from the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery. The following year, he received the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award for Outstanding Medical Student Education.</p><p>Dr. Kobets is a member of numerous professional societies, including the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery, the American Academy of Neurological Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery. </p>

<p>Dr. Galen graduated from Brown University with honors in the biological sciences and earned an M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. &nbsp;He trained in internal medicine at Yale University where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and was the class speaker at residency graduation. &nbsp;He joined Montefiore and Einstein in 2013 as a teaching attending in Hospital Medicine</p>
<p>Dr. Galen is an Associate Program Director in The Einstein/Montefiore Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Director of Firm 3 and the Director of ultrasound and procedure training. &nbsp;In 2015 Dr. Galen received the Sharon R. Silbiger Faculty Teaching Award from the Einstein residents. &nbsp;He has led hundreds of resident teaching conferences and has worked to formalize curricula for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and bedside procedures, such as lumbar puncture and paracentesis. &nbsp;Dr. Galen has taught in the EPHEM, Microbiology, and PDC classes at Einstein. &nbsp;He has led translational research on recurrent meningitis, collaborting with members of Betsy Herold's laboratory. He has co-authored over 20 original research studies. &nbsp;Dr. Galen is passionate about medical case reports and he has mentored residents and junior faculty in the process of publishing cases in a variety of venues. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Galen is the editor-in-chief of <em>POCUS Journal (</em><a href="https://pocusjournal.com/">https://pocusjournal.com/)</a>, the world's leading peer-reviewed, open-access publication for point-of-care ultrasound. &nbsp;He teaches POCUS nationally at a variety of workshops and conferences.&nbsp;</p>
