<p>Mauricio Drummond Jr., MD, is an attending surgeon and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics and Orthopedic Surgery at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Drummond&rsquo;s clinical focus is in pediatric sports medicine with a special focus on knee pathology. His interests include pediatric orthopedic surgery, complex pediatric and adolescent sports medicine, ACL, PCL and multiligament knee injuries, discoid meniscus, meniscus transplantation, patellofemoral instability, trochlear dysplasia, cartilage preservation and pediatric trauma and limb deformities.</p><p>In 1996, Dr. Drummond earned his Doctor of Medicine from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He completed his residency training at the same institution, and practiced as a knee specialist for more than 13 years in Brazil. In 2018, he came to the United States, completing an orthopedic surgery research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2019 and an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2020. He continued his postdoctoral training, completing his pediatric orthopedics and limb deformity fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in 2021 and his pediatric orthopedics fellowship at Connecticut Children&rsquo;s Medical Center in 2022.</p><p>Dr. Drummond&rsquo;s research interests include discoid meniscus, trochlear dysplasia, patellofemoral instability and ACL tears. He has shared his work nationally and internationally through peer-reviewed journals and podium and poster presentations. <p>Dr. Yang earned his medical degree at Beijing Medical University in China followed by an orthopaedic residency at Peking University People&rsquo;s Hospital in Beijing, China.&nbsp; Following his training in China, he came to the United States where he earned a Master&rsquo;s degree in Biological Sciences from Hunter College at the City University of New York. Dr. Yang completed a second orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas, in Houston and then he did a fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.</p>
<p>Dr. Yang specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors in the musculoskeletal system. A multidisciplinary approach is emphasized in his practice. He performs surgery to remove the tumor fom the limb and pelvis, and rebuild them using techniques tailored for each individual patient. Dr. Yang is also interested in treating metastatic bony lesions originating from other parts of the body.</p>
<p>Dr. Yang has a strong interest in the research of musculoskeletal tumors. <p>Jacob F. Schulz, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who provides comprehensive pediatric orthopedic care with an emphasis on spinal deformity, neuromuscular disease and trauma. He has a particular interest in the growing spine, with experience using the vertical expandable titanium rib (VEPTR) device and vertebral tethering through a thoracoscopic approach. At our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery.</p><p>He served both his internship and residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia where he was honored with the Frank Hammond Sivitz and Chief Resident Teaching Awards in 2011. <p>Amanda C. Raff, MD, is Attending Physician, Professor and Associate Chair of Medicine for Undergraduate Medical Education at Montefiore-Einstein. She is also the co-director of the Montefiore-Einstein Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease Program. Dr. Raff&rsquo;s clinical focus is on dialysis and the treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease and end stage kidney disease.</p><p>After earning her Bachelor of Science in biology at Indiana University, Dr. Raff completed her Doctor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, earning her degree in 1998.&nbsp; Her postdoctoral training began at New York Presbyterian Hospital with an internship and residency in internal medicine from 1998 through 2001. She was assistant chief resident at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2000 and chief resident at New York University Downtown Hospital from 2001 to 2002. She then returned to Montefiore-Einstein to complete a two-year fellowship in nephrology in 2004.</p><p>Dr. Raff&rsquo;s research focuses on medical education. She has been the Course Director for the Einstein medical student Renal Course since 2007 and the Internal Medicine Clerkship and Acting Internship Director since 2012. Dr. Raff&rsquo;s contributions in the field of Medical Education include serving as a Nephrology section committee member for the American College of Physicians&rsquo; Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) 19 and 20 as well as prior work as a Case Editor for Aquifer Internal Medicine and contributing author and reviewer for the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM) curriculum revision.</p><p>An enthusiastic medical educator, Dr. Raff has received several awards for her teaching and in 2010 was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society for outstanding achievement in the teaching of medical students. She is board certified and is a member the American Society of Nephrology and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.</p>

Levin, MD, joined Montefiore and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2004 and is the Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopedics as well as the Director of the Department of Orthopedics, Moses Campus. At Einstein, he serves as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a board-certified orthopedic specialist with expertise in general orthopedics, the nonoperative management of musculoskeletal conditions, fracture surgery and complications of fractures.<br /><br />He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1980 and completed his orthopedic residency at Montefiore in 1985. He subsequently completed a fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at the University of Texas and a second fellowship in fracture care at the Kantosspital in Basel, Switzerland.<br /><br />Dr. Levin teaches classes in bioethics and a course in Patients, Doctors and Communities, both of which focus on collaboration among patients and professionals regarding healthcare delivery. Known for exploring treatment options with his patients along with the desire to identify a strategy for successful care without surgical intervention, he has been called on to lecture on patient-clinician communication and surgical safety. <p>Frederick J. Kaskel, M.D., Ph.D., is an internationally recognized clinical investigator and educator in pediatric nephrology. He is a Chief Emeritus, Nephrology Children's Hospital at Montefioire, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Past President of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology and the Congress President of the 15th Scientific Congress of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association.</p>
<p>He received his undergraduate bachelor's degree in Biology from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill., and his doctorate in Physiology and Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and is a Distinguished Alumnus from both of these institutions. He trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, respectively and was a recipient of an NIH National Research Service Award. Prior to returning to Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1998 to become the Director of Pediatric Nephrology, he was a tenured Professor of Pediatrics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.</p>
<p>Dr. Kaskel's research interests range from basic science contributions in developmental renal physiology and mechanisms of renal toxicity and hypertension, to clinical and translational research in the etiologies and treatment of progressive kidney diseases secondary to nephrotic sydnrome and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and hypertension. His current research is aimed at preventing the epidemic of obesity and cardiovascular risk factors and hypertension. He has received continuous research support from the National Institutes of Health and directs the Training Program in Pediatric Nephrology which prepares new physician investigators for careers in Pediatric Nephrology.</p>
<p>He published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and co-edited a major textbook on Fluids and Electrolytes in Pediatrics. He has numerous collaborations nationally and internationally and is expanding the communications between pediatric nephrology basic and clinical investigators worldwide. He currently plays a major role representing the Department of Pediatrics in the Einstein's prestigious Clinical Translational Science Award.</p>

<p>As Director of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology, Dr. Kaskel is involved in basic and clinical investigations into the mechanisms of the major kidney disorders in pediatrics. He is particularly interested in the physiology and pathophysiology of normal and abnormal development and function of the kidneys throughout the critical periods of growth and maturation extending into adolescence and young adulthood. He is actively involved in a clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to find the most efficacious therapy for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, one of the major causes of progressive glomerular disease, while investigating the molecular etiologies for its expression. Another NIH-supported study involves chronic kidney disease in children and how it affects their growth and neurocognitive development, and the risk factors for cardiovascular disease and renal progression.</p><p>Dr. Kaskel is a past president of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology, was Congress President of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association 15th Scientific Meeting, and has served as Chair for the Council of Nephrology and Urology of the National Kidney Foundation and the Kidney and Urology Foundation of America. He has also served on the Cardiovascular Renal Advisory Panel of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and as Associate Editor for the <em>Journal of the IPNA Pediatric Nephrology</em>. In addition, he has been named one of the Best Doctors in America and New York and as a Super Doctor by <em>New York Times</em> Magazine.</p>

<p>Alexa J. Karkenny, MD, is an attending physician in the pediatric division of orthopedic surgery and Clinical Instructor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s clinical interest is in the treatment of pediatric and adolescent musculoskeletal problems. She has particular focus on neuromuscular diseases affecting the extremities and the spine, complex pediatric and adolescent hip disorders, bone deformities, limb length discrepancies, scoliosis and traumatic injuries.</p><p>Her medical education began at Drexel University, earning her Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering in 2010 followed by her Doctor of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Karkenny started her postgraduate training at Montefiore-Einstein with an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery from 2014 to 2019. She then went to the Children&rsquo;s Hospital of Philadelphia to pursue a yearlong fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery, which she completed in 2020.</p><p>Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s research interests include neuromuscular scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, intraoperative navigation in orthopedic surgery, hip dysplasia, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, Legg-Calv&eacute;-Perthes disease, vitamin D deficiency and pediatric fractures, pediatric injury prevention and occupational radiation exposure. <p></p>Mani Kahn, MD, is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of injuries to the upper and lower extremities as well as to the pelvis. He has a particular interest in treating periarticular fractures, fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, performing complex limb reconstruction, and the correction of failed or infected fractures.<br /><br />Dr. Kahn attended the University of Maryland for his undergraduate degree, where he pursued research in biochemistry and was awarded several research fellowships, including the Rollinson Fellowship and the famed Howard Hughes Medical Institute's fellowship. He went on to obtain a Masters of Science in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University. Dr. Kahn continued his studies at New York Medical College, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Public Health. Dr. Kahn completed his residency training at Montefiore Medical Center. While a resident, he received two of the highest awards given to residents: the Anatomy Award and the Richard Selznick Memorial Research Award.<br /><br />Following his residency, Dr. Kahn continued his training at Duke University with a fellowship in trauma surgery, where he received an AOTrauma research fellowship. He was also privileged to continue his training with two sought-after traveling fellowships. Dr. Kahn received a travelling fellowship award in limb lengthening and reconstructive surgery, and he travelled across the country to work with the best limb reconstruction surgeons in the world. He was also selected as the recipient of the prestigious Jack McDaniel AO Travelling Fellowship, and studied under the guidance of Dr. Marcel Jakob at University of Basel Hospital in Switzerland.<br /><br />Dr. Kahn has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and has been invited as faculty in a national course for the training of residents in the principles of fracture care.<p></p>
