<p>Dr. Yang earned his medical degree at Beijing Medical University in China followed by an orthopaedic residency at Peking University People&rsquo;s Hospital in Beijing, China.&nbsp; Following his training in China, he came to the United States where he earned a Master&rsquo;s degree in Biological Sciences from Hunter College at the City University of New York. Dr. Yang completed a second orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas, in Houston and then he did a fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.</p>
<p>Dr. Yang specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors in the musculoskeletal system. A multidisciplinary approach is emphasized in his practice. He performs surgery to remove the tumor fom the limb and pelvis, and rebuild them using techniques tailored for each individual patient. Dr. Yang is also interested in treating metastatic bony lesions originating from other parts of the body.</p>
<p>Dr. Yang has a strong interest in the research of musculoskeletal tumors. He has been studying the tumorigenesis of osteosarcoma and the genetic profile of the tumors as comparison to its normal counterpart tissues.&nbsp; He has also studied the mechanism of chemotherapy resistance in osteosarcoma and related signaling pathways, as well as novel strategies to overcome it in collaboration with the pediatric sarcoma teams.</p>

<p>Dr. Shlomo Shinnar is a neurologist, pediatrician and epidemiologist. His expertise focuses on comprehensive epilepsy management, child neurology and epilepsy with a focus on long term studies&nbsp; the prognosis of childhood seizures disorders. He is also an experienced clinical trialist and is the co-director of the Einstein NeuroNEXT cener of Excellence for Clinical Trials in Neurology.<br /><br />Dr. Shinnar conducts research on a variety of topics relating to childhood seizures, including when to initiate and discontinue antiepileptic drug therapy, prognosis following a first seizure, and prognosis following discontinuation of medications in children with seizures.&nbsp;He is also interested in the comorbidities of epilepsy and its impact on chilren and families.&nbsp;He current studies focus on status epilepticus, a life-threatening condition of persistent continuous and unremitting brain seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes.&nbsp; He is also involved in research in autism, an increasingly common neurological condition in childhood.<br /><br />His current research focuses on the consequences of prolonged febrile seizures, the most common seizure seen in children and on the long term outcomes of childhood absence (petit-mal) seizures which are the most common form of epilepsy in children. He is also on the executive commitee of the recentlyfunded ESETT (Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial) trial which seeks to determine the optimal therapy for convulsive status epilepticus inchildren and adults when first line therapy with a benzodiazepine has failed.</p>
<p>Dr. Shinnar is the senior editor of the book <em>Childhood Seizures</em> and co-editor of the book <em>Febrile Seizures</em>. He has published over 185 original papers and over 125 reviews and chapters. He is the recipient of the prestigious Research Recognition Award of the American Epilepsy Society and the CURE&nbsp; research award. His continuing research on the Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Children (FEBSTAT) study was recently recognized with the prestigious Javits award by the NINDS.<br /><br /></p>

Levin, MD, joined Montefiore and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2004 and is the Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopedics as well as the Director of the Department of Orthopedics, Moses Campus. At Einstein, he serves as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a board-certified orthopedic specialist with expertise in general orthopedics, the nonoperative management of musculoskeletal conditions, fracture surgery and complications of fractures.<br /><br />He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1980 and completed his orthopedic residency at Montefiore in 1985. He subsequently completed a fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at the University of Texas and a second fellowship in fracture care at the Kantosspital in Basel, Switzerland.<br /><br />Dr. Levin teaches classes in bioethics and a course in Patients, Doctors and Communities, both of which focus on collaboration among patients and professionals regarding healthcare delivery. <p></p>Mani Kahn, MD, is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of injuries to the upper and lower extremities as well as to the pelvis. He has a particular interest in treating periarticular fractures, fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, performing complex limb reconstruction, and the correction of failed or infected fractures.<br /><br />Dr. Kahn attended the University of Maryland for his undergraduate degree, where he pursued research in biochemistry and was awarded several research fellowships, including the Rollinson Fellowship and the famed Howard Hughes Medical Institute's fellowship. He went on to obtain a Masters of Science in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University. Dr. Kahn continued his studies at New York Medical College, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Public Health. Dr. Kahn completed his residency training at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Kahn received a travelling fellowship award in limb lengthening and reconstructive surgery, and he travelled across the country to work with the best limb reconstruction surgeons in the world. <p>Dr. Cuomo received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. She went on to complete a general surgery internship at Beth Israel Medical Center and an orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. She then completed the Charles S. Neer, II, Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.</p><p>A prolific author and speaker, Dr. Cuomo has published more than 40 scientific articles and 20 book chapters on the diagnosis and management of shoulder disorders, and she has made over 150 national and international scientific presentations. She currently serves as secretary of the editorial board of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and is a reviewer for many orthopedic journals.</p><p>The first female orthopedic surgeon to be elected to the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Association, its first woman president, and the first woman ever to serve as president of any subspecialty society in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Frances Cuomo, MD, joined the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Montefiore in October 2016 as Chief of Shoulder and Elbow Service.</p>

<p>Dr. Lauren Crocco is an attending physician in orthopaedic surgery and Assistant Professor of orthopaedic surgery at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Crocco&rsquo;s clinical focus is on fractures and soft tissue injuries of the upper and lower extremities. These include fractures of the ankle, tibia, knee, femur, hip, wrist, forearm, elbow and humerus.&nbsp; She additionally manages soft tissue injuries of the extremities including sprains, strains and contusions. Her expertise also includes post traumatic deformity and infection.&nbsp; </p><p>After earning her Bachelor of Science in biology at Boston College in 2003, Dr. Crocco attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine for her medical school training. She earned her Doctor of Medicine in 2008 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.&nbsp; She began her post graduate training at Montefiore Einstein completing an orthopaedic surgery residency in 2013. She then went on to Brigham and Women&rsquo;s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital to complete her Harvard orthopaedic trauma surgery fellowship.
