<p>Mauricio Drummond Jr., MD, is an attending surgeon and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics and Orthopedic Surgery at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Drummond&rsquo;s clinical focus is in pediatric sports medicine with a special focus on knee pathology. His interests include pediatric orthopedic surgery, complex pediatric and adolescent sports medicine, ACL, PCL and multiligament knee injuries, discoid meniscus, meniscus transplantation, patellofemoral instability, trochlear dysplasia, cartilage preservation and pediatric trauma and limb deformities.</p><p>In 1996, Dr. Drummond earned his Doctor of Medicine from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He completed his residency training at the same institution, and practiced as a knee specialist for more than 13 years in Brazil. In 2018, he came to the United States, completing an orthopedic surgery research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2019 and an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2020. He continued his postdoctoral training, completing his pediatric orthopedics and limb deformity fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in 2021 and his pediatric orthopedics fellowship at Connecticut Children&rsquo;s Medical Center in 2022.</p><p>Dr. Drummond&rsquo;s research interests include discoid meniscus, trochlear dysplasia, patellofemoral instability and ACL tears. <p>Dr. Yang earned his medical degree at Beijing Medical University in China followed by an orthopaedic residency at Peking University People&rsquo;s Hospital in Beijing, China.&nbsp; Following his training in China, he came to the United States where he earned a Master&rsquo;s degree in Biological Sciences from Hunter College at the City University of New York. <p>Jacob F. Schulz, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who provides comprehensive pediatric orthopedic care with an emphasis on spinal deformity, neuromuscular disease and trauma. <p>David Kaufman, MD, an attending physician and Professor of Neurology and of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Einstein, concentrates on the neurologic aspects of psychiatric illness and movement disorders. He provides neurology consultations for in-patients and out-patients, serves as the attending on consultation and ward rounds, and supervises neurology clinics at Montefiore Einstein. He works closely with psychiatrists and, for botulinum treatment of certain dystopias, the neuromuscular group.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1964, Dr. Kaufman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1968. He pursued his postdoctoral training at Montefiore, completing his internal medicine internship and residency in 1971. In 1975, he completed the four-year neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine hospitals. He has been a steadfast member of Montefiore and Einstein communities ever since.</p><p>From his research interests, Dr. Kaufman has published clinical studies of central nervous system infections, heroin overdose-induced pulmonary edema, COVID&rsquo;s effect on Parkinson disease patients, and other topics. He has been a member of editorial boards for Internal Medicine Bulletin and Medical Meetings: Pearls &amp; Perspectives, and a consultant and reviewer for numerous medical journals. He teaches medical students in their neuroscience course, psychiatry and neurology residents, and psychiatrists preparing for their Board examinations. He has been a Visiting Professor at Ben Gurion University, Yale University, Pritzker/University of Chicago, and other American medical schools, and at U.S. Naval Medical Centers, as well as a frequent lecturer at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.</p><p>Dr. Kaufman innovated the long-standing, annual, national course, Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry for Psychiatrists, developed a noteworthy neuropsychiatry seminar and authored the book, <em>Kaufman&rsquo;s Clinical Neurology for Psychiatrists</em>, now in its 9th edition.</p><p>Dr. Kaufman is board certified in Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the Movement Disorder Society. A devoted educator, Dr. Kaufman has received many accolades for his excellence in medical teaching, including induction into the Leo M. Davidoff Society in 1993, the American Academy of Neurology award in 2001 and the Montefiore Staff and Alumni Award in 2007.</p>

<p>Alexa J. Karkenny, MD, is an attending physician in the pediatric division of orthopedic surgery and Clinical Instructor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s clinical interest is in the treatment of pediatric and adolescent musculoskeletal problems. She has particular focus on neuromuscular diseases affecting the extremities and the spine, complex pediatric and adolescent hip disorders, bone deformities, limb length discrepancies, scoliosis and traumatic injuries.</p><p>Her medical education began at Drexel University, earning her Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering in 2010 followed by her Doctor of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Karkenny started her postgraduate training at Montefiore-Einstein with an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery from 2014 to 2019. She then went to the Children&rsquo;s Hospital of Philadelphia to pursue a yearlong fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery, which she completed in 2020.</p><p>Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s research interests include neuromuscular scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, intraoperative navigation in orthopedic surgery, hip dysplasia, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, Legg-Calv&eacute;-Perthes disease, vitamin D deficiency and pediatric fractures, pediatric injury prevention and occupational radiation exposure.
