<p>Dr. Ali Sadoughi is Director of Interventional Pulmonology and Bronchoscopy. His clinical expertise is in interventional pulmonology and thoracic oncology, an evolving sub-specialty of pulmonary and critical care medicine. This field focuses on patients with benign and malignant chest diseases.</p>
<p>Dr. Sadoughi performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients with lung nodules/masses, intra-thoracic lymphadenopathy, pleural diseases, and severe asthma. These include:</p>

<li>Sampling of pulmonary lesions; both peripherally and centrally located in the lung; using endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS, both radial and linear array probes) and navigational bronchoscopy</li>

<p>Dr. Sadoughi's research interests are in evolution and application of sophisticated and modern technologies for early and minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of different pulmonary diseases, from lung cancers, to airway disorders, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, respiratory failure, and pleural diseases. <p>Ali Sadoughi, MD, is Director, Interventional Pulmonology and Bronchoscopy and Associate Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. He specializes in interventional pulmonology, a subspecialty of pulmonary and critical care medicine that uses endoscopy and other minimally invasive tools to diagnose and treat patients with benign and malignant chest diseases.</p><p>After earning his Doctor of Medicine at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, Dr. Sadoughi completed an internal medicine residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. Following this, he completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Hofstra-North Shore LIJ School of Medicine in 2014 and an interventional pulmonary fellowship at Washington University in 2015.</p><p>Dr. Sadoughi's research interests are in developing and applying advanced technologies for early and minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases. These include lung cancers, airway disorders, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, respiratory failure and pleural diseases. His work has been published in journals including <em>Chest</em> and the <em>Journal of Molecular Medicine</em>, and he has made presentations at national and international medical meetings. One of his recent research studies focuses on the development of brachytherapy seeds (DaRT) using alpha radiation for the treatment of lung cancer, sponsored by Alpha Tau Ltd. In another study, he works with an international group of pulmonologists on the role of confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) in the diagnosis of different benign and malignant lung diseases. His work related to increased precision and accuracy of biopsy of peripheral lung nodules by intraprocedural 3D scanning in combination with ultrathin bronchoscopy has been published in the <em>Journal of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology</em>. Another area of Dr. Sadoughi&rsquo;s research involves the synergy of local therapies such as cryotherapy with immunotherapy in the treatment of lung cancer. He has presented this exciting topic at the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) Conference in 2022.</p><p>Dr. Sadoughi is board certified in interventional pulmonology, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and internal medicine. He is a member of professional societies such as the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, the World Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. <p>Divya Reddy, MD, MPH, is Program Director, Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship and Associate Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus centers on bronchiectasis, nontuberculous mycobacterial infections, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and interstitial lung disease.</p><p>After earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College in Mumbai, India in 2006, Dr. Reddy moved to the United States to continue her medical training, earning her Master of Public Health at Boston University in 2008. She remained there to complete her internal medicine internship in 2009, followed by her internal medicine residency in 2011. Dr. Reddy then completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Boston University in 2014.</p><p>Building on her clinical experience, Dr. Reddy&rsquo;s research is focused on bronchiectasis and nontuberculous mycobacterial infections. She has been principal investigator and co-investigator on several funded research projects, and her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, review articles and abstracts. She has also given national and international invited presentations, and is a reviewer for scientific journals including the <em>Journal of American Geriatric Society</em>, <em>Annals of American Thoracic Society</em> and the <em>Journal of Infectious &amp; Non-Infectious Diseases</em>, among others.</p><p>Dr. Reddy is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians and the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors. In 2014 and 2015, Dr. Reddy received the Potts Memorial Foundation Grant award.</p>

<p><span>Dr. Marjan Rahmanian is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Neurology. She is an Associate Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Montefiore Medical Center. She is also Medical Director of Physician Assistant Critical Care Residency program. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center. <p>Dr. Yoram Puius completed MD and PhD degrees at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2001. His original research was in the structural biology of signal transduction proteins in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Almo. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital, he completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Columbia Presbyterian, followed by an additional year at Tufts Medical Center focusing on infections in transplant recipients.</p>
<p>Dr. Puius's first position was at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island in 2007. There he served as Medical Director of Infection Control and Assistant Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency, while holding the rank of Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine. In Rhode Island he further developed interest and expertise in tickborne diseases. In addition, he directed infectious diseases protocols and education for the sole Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in the state of Rhode Island.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Since joining Einstein-Montefiore in 2011, Dr. Puius has worked closely with transplant teams providing inpatient and outpatient consultations, working on protocols for various selection committees, and developing an online transplant infections curriculum. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2018.&nbsp; He has also served as Associate Program Director for the Fellowship in Infectious Diseases. He remains clinically active in the evaluation and treatment of tickborne diseases.</p>
<p>Dr. Puius is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society for Transplantation, the Transplantation Society, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He is on the editorial boards of <em>Clinical Transplantation</em> and <em>Transplant Infectious Diseases</em>, and a reviewer for several other journals.</p>
<p>He publishes and speaks regionally on infections in the immunocompromised host and Lyme disease.&nbsp; He also chairs the working group to maintain the online Transplant Infectious Diseases library for the American Society of Transplantation (AST) ID Community of Practice, at http://transplantid.net/.&nbsp; In addition, he initatied a working group for AST to create standardized patient materials for safe living after transplantation.&nbsp; In 2024 he was selected as a Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation.</p>

Biography

<p>Yoram A. Puius, MD, PhD, is an attending physician, Associate Professor, Medicine and Associate Professor, Cardiothoracic &amp; Vascular Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus centers on treating infections in the immunocompromised host, including recipients of solid organ transplants, patients with hematologic malignancies and recipients of cellular therapy.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in physics from Cornell University in 1992, Dr. Puius earned his Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry at Einstein in 1999, followed by his Doctor of Medicine in 2001. He moved to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell to complete his internal medicine residency in 2003 and an infectious diseases fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia in 2006. Following this, Dr. Puius completed an additional year focusing on infectious in the immunocompromised host at Tufts Medical Center in 2007.</p><p>Building on his clinical focus, Dr. Puius&rsquo;s research involves infections in left ventricular assist device recipients, heart transplant recipients and kidney transplant recipients. In addition, he is the architect of the online transplant infectious disease library, &ldquo;transplantid.net&rdquo; for the American Society of Transplantation. He is also involved in research on COVID-19-associated Mucormycosis. Dr. Puius&rsquo;s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, books, chapters and review articles, and he has presented abstracts and poster presentations nationally. He has been a reviewer for a number of journals and is on the editorial boards of <em>Clinical Transplantation</em> and <em>Transplant Infectious Diseases</em>.</p><p>Dr. Puius is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society of Transplantation and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He is also the Founding Chair of the Transplant Infectious Diseases Online Library Working Group for the American Society of Transplantation. In 2021, Dr. Puius was named Heart Failure &amp; Transplant Consultant of the Year at Montefiore. He has also been named in Castle Connolly&rsquo;s &ldquo;Top Doctors&rdquo; for multiple years.</p>

<p>Dr. David Prezant is the Chief Medical Officer at the Office of Medical Affairs for the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). Dr. Prezant directs all medical protocol development for both day-to-day operations and homeland security issues. He is also Co-Director of the FDNY World Trade Center Medical Monitoring Program and the Senior Pulmonary Consultant for FDNY.</p>

<p>Dr. Prezant is a member of the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Personal Protective Equipment in the Workplace, the National Fire Protection Association's Health and Safety Committee, and the International Association of Firefighters Redmond Medical Advisory Board. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; Director of Albert Einstein Medical School's Pulmonary Course for medical students and the Research Director for their Unified Pulmonary Division.</p>

<p>Dr. Prezant responded on 9/11/01 to the World Trade Center and was present during the collapse and its aftermath. Since that day, he and Dr. Kelly (FDNY's Chief Medical Officer at the Bureau of Health Services) have initiated a multi-million dollar medical monitoring and treatment program for FDNY firefighters funded by FDNY, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).</p>

<p>Dr. Prezant is the Principal Investigator for the FDNY Data Coordinating Center for the WTC Medical Monitoring Program and is on the Steering Committee for the WTC Medical Monitoring Program. He served as a member of the EPA WTC Technical Advisory Committee, the NYC Dept of Health WTC Registry Scientific Advisory Board, the NYS Governor's WTC panel and the NYC Mayor's medical advisory board.</p>

<p>Dr. Prezant has written extensively on pulmonary physiology, firefighter health and safety and since 9/11 on the health impact of World Trade Center Collapse on NYC Firefighters and EMS rescue workers. His group was the first to describe WTC Cough Syndrome (New England Journal of Medicine 2002) and has published extensively on this subject in the CDC MMWR, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chest and Environmental Health Perspectives.</p>

<p>His major research interest is in determining the mechanisms responsible for accelerated decline in longitudinal pulmonary function and/or airway hyperreactivity in firefighters after WTC exposure. Other interests are in determining the mechanisms responsible for the increased incidence of sarcoidosis in firefighters after WTC exposure.</p>

<p>Dr. Liise-anne Pirofski is a physician-scientist. Her research programs focus on host-microbe interaction and antibody immunity to infectious diseases.</p>
<p>She is chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Jacques and Selma Mitrani Chair in Biomedical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. She is a member of the American Association of Physicians (AAP) and a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), American College of Physicians (ACP), Infectious Diseases Society of America (FIDSA), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She is deeply devoted to biomedical education and mentoring for which she has received numerous accolades, including the American Society for Microbiology William A Hinton Award, the Infectious Diseases Society of America Walter E. Stamm Mentor Award, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Faculty Mentoring Award, Harry Eagle Award for Outstanding Basic Science Teaching, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Alumni Association.</p>
<p>Dr. Pirofski received Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in History of Art and Psychology, and her Medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.</p>

<div>A leading physician-scientist, Dr. Pirofski studies vaccine and antibody mediated immunity to infectious diseases, including cryptococcosis (the leading cause of fungal meningitis globally), pneumococcal pneumonia, and COVID-19. Her work has identified novel ways by which antibodies protect against pneumonia and the spread of fungal infections. She has spearheaded studies to understand the antibody response to the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.<br /><br /></div>

<div>As chief of the division of infectious diseases, Dr. Pirofski helped lead the Einstein and Montefiore response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also co-authored a widely-cited commentary in the <em>Journal of Clinical Investigation</em> proposing the use of convalescent plasma as a potential treatment for COVID-19 and is leading Einstein and Montefiore&rsquo;s participation in a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial to test the efficacy of convalescent plasma in hospitalized patients.<br /><br /></div>
<div>Dr. Pirofski, who has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health throughout her career, is a member of the American Association of Physicians and a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She has received numerous awards for her accomplishments, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Alumni Association.</div>
