Biography

<p>Cindy T. Pynadath, DO, is a Transplant Nephrologist and Assistant Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus centers on kidney and pancreas transplantation.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in integrated life sciences from Kent State University in 2005, Dr. Pynadath earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. She then completed her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2012 before completing a nephrology fellowship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in 2014. Following this, Dr. Pynadath completed a transplant nephrology fellowship at the same institution in 2015.</p><p>Dr. Pynadath&rsquo;s current research in transplant medicine explores its connection to infectious disease and mineral bone and metabolic disorders, as well as the clinical outcomes in kidney transplantation. Her work collaborations have been published in a number of reputed journals, as well as presented at national and international transplant conferences.</p><p>Dr. Pynadath is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of multiple professional associations including the American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). She is a past recipient of the Caregiver Celebrations Appreciation Award for exemplary clinical and patient care from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.</p>

Biography

<p>Eugen C. Palma, MD, FACC, FHRS, is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of Weiler Arrhythmia Service at Montefiore and our <a href="http://www.einstein.yu.edu/faculty/5316/eugen-palma/&quot; rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Albert Einstein College of Medicine</a>. His clinical focus is on the treatment of all arrhythmias, with a special interest in catheter ablation and cardiac resynchronization therapy. Dr. Palma joined the Montefiore team in 1999.</p><p>Dr. Palma received his Bachelor of Science in Basic Medical Science in 1986 and his Doctor of Medicine in 1989 at the University of the Philippines in Manila, Philippines. He completed a residency in internal medicine in 1994, becoming Chief Resident in 1993 at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He then began a fellowship in the Division of Cardiology at Montefiore in 1994. In 1999, Dr. Palma completed a fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of California at San Francisco at the Cardiovascular Research Institute.</p><p>Dr. Palma&rsquo;s research has focused on the outcomes of catheter ablation and pioneering interventional electrophysiology techniques, including subclavian and coronary sinus venoplasty for cardiac resynchronization therapy. His research has been published in various articles, including &ldquo;Subclavian Venoplasty May Reduce Implant Times and Implant Failures in the Era of Increasing Device Upgrades&rdquo; in Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology and &ldquo;Coronary Sinus Venoplasty for Optimal Left Ventricular Lead Placement in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy&rdquo; in the Journal of Innovations in Cardiac Rhythm Management, as well as numerous peer-reviewed journals and books.</p><p>In 1994, Dr. Palma received the Northport VAMC First Annual Chiefs&rsquo; Award for outstanding achievements in laboratory medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal for Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology,a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the Heart Rhythm Society.</p>

<p>Sarah Evans Norris, MD, MEd, is Director of the Quality in Life Team and Director of Pediatric Palliative Care at Children?s Hospital at Montefiore. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and of Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. </p><p>Dr. Norris earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Loyola University Chicago in 1993 receiving the Gladys Kinnery Clinical Excellence award. As a nurse she worked around the globe including as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco before pursuing medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. She completed the Fifth Pathway Program through New York Medical College and embarked on her pediatrics internship at the University of Medicine & Dentistry New Jersey. She finished her residency at the Medical College of Georgia where she was named Resident of the Year. Following residency she completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine and a masters in medical education at Cincinnati Children?s Medical Center. After several years in practice she returned to Cincinnati Children?s to complete a second fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine. Dr. Norris is Board Certified in General Pediatrics and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.</p> <p>Dr. Norris? research focus is on primary palliative care education and family decision making regarding medical technology. She has given numerous presentations nationally and has a wide range of teaching experience with both adults and children internationally. In 2018 she received the Lewis Fraad Excellence in Resident Teaching Award. When she is not at CHAM you can find her running.</p>

Dr. Joel Neugarten is currently Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Medical Director of the Bedford Park Dialysis Unit, and an Attending Nephrologist at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Brooklyn Law School and completed his post graduate training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and at New York University Medical Center. He previously served as Site Director of the Nephrology Division of Montefiore Medical Center and as President of the New York Society of Nephrology. He is an author of over 100 peer reviewed publications and book chapters dealing with numerous aspects of Nephrology. His major research interests include factors that influence the progression of chronic kidney disease and the management of patients with chronic kidney disease.

<p>Dr. Michal Melamed is a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology &amp; Population Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has been the Nephrology Fellowship Program Director since 2012. After completing her undergraduate degree in Dramatic Literature at New York University <em>summa cum laude</em>, she trained at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for medical school, Internal Medicine residency, and Nephrology fellowship. Additionally, she completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health during her fellowship.</p>
<p>She has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 2007 and her research interests include the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease and its complications, the epidemiology and health consequences of Vitamin D deficiency and metabolic acidosis. Dr. Melamed is the Principal Investigator of several NIH-funded research studies.&nbsp; She has published over 90 original publications in the medical literature and has mentored countless young investigators from high school students to junior faculty members. In 2019, she won the Distinguished Mentor Award from the American Society of Nephrology.</p>
