<p>Dr. Wahezi attended medical school at the University of Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She completed her residency training in Pediatrics at The Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore, where she stayed on as the inaugural fellow in Pediatric Rheumatology. She subsequently joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Montefiore and completed a Master&rsquo;s Degree in clinical research through the Einstein-Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research Program. Dr. Wahezi is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and serves as the Program Director of the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Dr. Wahezi has a special interest in juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and was awarded the Cure JM Foundation Early Investigator Award for her research in premature atherosclerosis. She has additionally established a pediatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Cohort and participates in a dedicated, multi-disciplinary pediatric Lupus Nephritis Clinic. Dr. Wahezi is currently engaged in several research projects within the domains of JDM and SLE, contributing to over 40 peer reviewed manuscripts, reviews and scientific abstracts.</p>
<p>Dr. Wahezi is an active member of both the JDM subcommittee and SLE subcommittee within the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) and has participated in numerous observational and comparative&nbsp;effectiveness research protocols through this research consortium. &nbsp;</p>

<p></p>Dawn Wahezi, MD, MS, is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology and Director of the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. She is also Associate Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine.<br /><br />Dr. Wahezi received her Bachelor of Science from Loyola College and earned her Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and did her residency and fellowship training at CHAM.<br /><br />Dr. Wahezi&rsquo;s clinical and research interests include juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). At CHAM, she established an interdisciplinary clinic and comprehensive patient registry for children with JDM and SLE.. <p>Dr. Shlomo Shinnar is a neurologist, pediatrician and epidemiologist. His expertise focuses on comprehensive epilepsy management, child neurology and epilepsy with a focus on long term studies&nbsp; the prognosis of childhood seizures disorders. He is also an experienced clinical trialist and is the co-director of the Einstein NeuroNEXT cener of Excellence for Clinical Trials in Neurology.<br /><br />Dr. Shinnar conducts research on a variety of topics relating to childhood seizures, including when to initiate and discontinue antiepileptic drug therapy, prognosis following a first seizure, and prognosis following discontinuation of medications in children with seizures.&nbsp;He is also interested in the comorbidities of epilepsy and its impact on chilren and families.&nbsp;He current studies focus on status epilepticus, a life-threatening condition of persistent continuous and unremitting brain seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes.&nbsp; He is also involved in research in autism, an increasingly common neurological condition in childhood.<br /><br />His current research focuses on the consequences of prolonged febrile seizures, the most common seizure seen in children and on the long term outcomes of childhood absence (petit-mal) seizures which are the most common form of epilepsy in children. He is also on the executive commitee of the recentlyfunded ESETT (Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial) trial which seeks to determine the optimal therapy for convulsive status epilepticus inchildren and adults when first line therapy with a benzodiazepine has failed.</p>
<p>Dr. Shinnar is the senior editor of the book <em>Childhood Seizures</em> and co-editor of the book <em>Febrile Seizures</em>. He has published over 185 original papers and over 125 reviews and chapters. He is the recipient of the prestigious Research Recognition Award of the American Epilepsy Society and the CURE&nbsp; research award. His continuing research on the Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Children (FEBSTAT) study was recently recognized with the prestigious Javits award by the NINDS.<br /><br /></p>

<p>Katherine O&rsquo;Connor, MD, is an Associate Director in the Division of Hospital Medicine and an Attending Pediatric Hospitalist at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. She is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. O&rsquo;Connor joined Montefiore in 2007.</p><p>Dr. O&rsquo;Connor received her Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Neuroscience in 1999 from Harvard University. In 2003, she received her Medical Doctorate from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. O&rsquo;Connor attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 2003 to 2007 where she completed an internship and residency in pediatrics.</p><p>Dr. O&rsquo;Connor is an advocate for patient and family comfort. Her research and quality improvement efforts are focused on pain control, topical anesthetic use for venipuncture and improving the patient experience. She is currently working on a study to help educate families about firearm injury prevention in the inpatient setting. <p>Mark J. Milstein, MD, FAAN, is Director of the Adult Neurology Residency Training Program at Montefiore and Associate Professor of Neurology and Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His clinical work focuses primarily on neurohospitalist and neuromuscular medicine / electromyography (EMG), as well as general neurology.</p><p>After earning a degree in Biology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1997, Dr. Milstein attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2001. Dr. Milstein completed five years of postgraduate training at Montefiore from 2001-2006, including his internship in medicine, residency in neurology and fellowship in clinical neurophysiology. Dr. Milstein was Chief Resident in the final year of his neurology training.</p><p>Dr. Milstein&rsquo;s research focuses on medical education, inpatient neurology and neuromuscular medicine. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, and includes original research, review articles, and books. Dr. Milstein has been an invited speaker at a number of national lectures and presentations.</p><p>At the 15th Annual Doctors Recognition Day in 2018, Dr. Milstein received the Peer to Peer Excellence in Medicine Award from the Bronx County Medical Society. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the New York State Neurological Society. He holds leadership positions in the AAN and the New York County Medical Society (NYCMS).</p><p>Dr. Milstein is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.</p>

<p>Courtney McNamara, MD, is Associate Program Director, Pediatric Residency Program at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on pediatric hospital medicine, with a particular interest in resident education and mentorship.</p><p>In 2006, Dr. McNamara received her Bachelor of Science at James Madison University. She pursued her medical education at New York Medical College, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2010. She then came to CHAM for her postgraduate training, completing her pediatric residency in 2013.</p><p>Dr. McNamara&rsquo;s research focuses on improving the patient experience. She is a co-investigator in a grant funded project investigating communication with hospitalized patients with limited English proficiency, and her body of research includes quality improvement research studies focused on improving inpatient pediatric comfort and decreasing painful experiences. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, poster presentations and platform presentations.</p><p>Dr. McNamara is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2023, Dr. McNamara was inducted into the Leo M. Davidoff Society.</p>
