<p>Benjamin J. Levy, MD, is Assistant Director, Orthopaedic Research and Assistant Professor, Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Levy specializes in orthopedic sports medicine, specifically arthroscopic surgery of the knee, with a particular interest in patellofemoral conditions, as well as the shoulder, elbow and ankle. He has expertise in operative and nonoperative management of patellofemoral instability, ligamentous reconstruction of the knee, cartilage repair and restoration, meniscal pathology, shoulder instability and rotator cuff pathology.</p><p>After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 2010, Dr. Levy came to Montefiore Einstein, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2014 and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 2019. Dr. Levy pursued an adult and pediatric sports medicine fellowship at the University of Connecticut, completing it in 2020. During that time, he served as the team physician fellow for the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University D-1 athletic programs.</p><p>Dr. Levy has a passion for research and teaching, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters in the field of sports medicine, with publications in the <em>American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy</em>, the <em>Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery</em> and many others. He has a specific interest in patellofemoral research and serves as a reviewer for several top journals in the field. He has also given many national presentations.</p><p>Dr. Levy is board certified for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Levy is a recipient of several academic awards for research, including the Arciero-Warner Research Award from the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society. He is an &ldquo;Emerging Leader&rdquo; in the American Orthopaedic Association.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>Paul E. Levin, MD, joined Montefiore and our Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2004 and is the Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopedics as well as the Director of the Department of Orthopedics, Moses Campus. At Einstein, he serves as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a board-certified orthopedic specialist with expertise in general orthopedics, the nonoperative management of musculoskeletal conditions, fracture surgery and complications of fractures.<br /><br />He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 1980 and completed his orthopedic residency at Montefiore in 1985. He subsequently completed a fellowship in orthopedic traumatology at the University of Texas and a second fellowship in fracture care at the Kantosspital in Basel, Switzerland.<br /><br />Dr. Levin teaches classes in bioethics and a course in Patients, Doctors and Communities, both of which focus on collaboration among patients and professionals regarding healthcare delivery. Known for exploring treatment options with his patients along with the desire to identify a strategy for successful care without surgical intervention, he has been called on to lecture on patient-clinician communication and surgical safety. Dr. Levin is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and chairman of the organization's Committee on Ethics and Lectures.<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dr. Kim attended the prestigious Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He subsequently completed his orthopaedic internship and residency at Northwestern University. Following his residency, he participated in the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York where he was awarded the Philip D. Wilson Award for Outstanding Fellowship Research.</p>
<p>Dr. Kim is Chief of the Arthroplasty Service at Montefiore Medical Center and the Clinical Director of the Joint Replacement Center. Dr. Kim is well published, and a recognized expert in his field. His interests include minimally invasive hip and knee surgery, primary and complex joint reconstruction. He is fluent in both Spanish, and Korean.</p>
<p>He is an active member of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Korean American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).</p>

<p>Alexa J. Karkenny, MD, is an attending physician in the pediatric division of orthopedic surgery and Clinical Instructor at Montefiore-Einstein. Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s clinical interest is in the treatment of pediatric and adolescent musculoskeletal problems. She has particular focus on neuromuscular diseases affecting the extremities and the spine, complex pediatric and adolescent hip disorders, bone deformities, limb length discrepancies, scoliosis and traumatic injuries.</p><p>Her medical education began at Drexel University, earning her Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering in 2010 followed by her Doctor of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Karkenny started her postgraduate training at Montefiore-Einstein with an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery from 2014 to 2019. She then went to the Children&rsquo;s Hospital of Philadelphia to pursue a yearlong fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery, which she completed in 2020.</p><p>Dr. Karkenny&rsquo;s research interests include neuromuscular scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, intraoperative navigation in orthopedic surgery, hip dysplasia, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, Legg-Calv&eacute;-Perthes disease, vitamin D deficiency and pediatric fractures, pediatric injury prevention and occupational radiation exposure.
