Biography

With an emphasis on general pediatrics and neonatology, Dr. Thompson completed her residency at NYU Medical Center in 2007 and fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2010. During her fellowship, Dr. Thompson also audited the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program, with an interest in performing clinical research. Her research has focused on the role of cytokines in bronchopulmonary dysplasia and use of ultrasound to diagnose necrotizing enterocolitis. She plans to conduct research on the use of near-infrared spectroscopy to delineate central nervous system pathology in preterm infants and predict short-term neurologic outcomes.

Dr. Kobets is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an Attending Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgeon in the Montefiore Health System. Dr. Kobets received his Medical Doctorate and Master of Health Science degrees from the Yale School of Medicine and completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Kobets is the first in his family born in the United States and is from Queens, NY. His family is Ukrainian with roots in Siberia as well. Dr. Kobets' practice is focused on a patient- and family-centered approach, utilizing the most advanced neurosurgical technologies via minimally-invasive procedures to treat the most complex neurosurgical conditions in both children and adults. Doctor Kobets has offices throughout the Bronx and Westchester.

Biography

Andrew Joshua Kobets, MD, is Attending Physician at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kobets specializes in pediatric neurological surgery with a focus on minimally invasive tumor resection, neuro-endoscopy for hydrocephalus, craniofacial reconstruction, Chiari malformation surgery, tethered cord syndrome repair, and pediatric cranial trauma management.In 2005, Dr. Kobets received his Bachelor of Arts in systems neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University. From 2007 to 2012, he attended Yale University. During this time, he received his Master of Health Sciences and Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Kobets began his postgraduate training in 2012 at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and continued to train there until 2019. He began with a year-long internship in neurological surgery. He then completed a 6-year residency in neurological surgery, becoming Chief Resident in the final year. In 2019, Dr. Kobets began a year-long fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.Dr. Kobets’ research aims to develop a model of hydrocephalus secondary to intraventricular hemorrhage to trial the use of cutting-edge therapies to prevent life-long shunt dependence in children with hydrocephalus. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, books and abstracts, and has been presented internationally at invited presentations.The Norma Bailey Berniker Prize was given to Dr. Kobets by the Yale School of Medicine in 2012. In 2018, Dr. Kobets received the Fred Epstein Award from the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery. The following year, he received the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award for Outstanding Medical Student Education.Dr. Kobets is a member of numerous professional societies, including the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery, the American Academy of Neurological Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Deborah Campbell, MD, FAAP, is Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and at attending neonatologist at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore. She conducted the Low-birth-weight infant Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP) clinic from 1988 through December 2022 and served as the Chief of Neonatology from 1994 until 2023. Her research and clinical interests include health services delivery, global perinatal heath care, perinatal ethics, shared decision-making and palliative care education, family integrated care in the neonatal intensive care unit and neonatal outcomes for very preterm and medically complex infants.  
Dr. Campbell is a member of the Academic Pediatric Society and a fellow at the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Academic Pediatric Association. Dr. Campbell has an active role in perinatal activities at the NY City and State, and national levels, currently serving on the Hospice & Palliative Care Association of NYS Children's Advisory Group, the NYS Perinatal Quality Collaborative Neonatal Expert Workgroup, NYS DOH Maternity Care Clinical Advisory Group, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section of Neonatal Perinatal Medicine High-Risk Infant Follow-up Workgroup, The Bronx Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Committee and the Bronx Maternal Health Care Steering Committee.  
 Dr. Campbell co-chaired the Bright Futures Guidelines, 4th edition Infancy Expert Panel (2017) and serves as an editor of, and contributor to, the American Academy of Pediatrics Textbook of Pediatric Care, the electronic companion tool, Pediatric Care On-line and the Quick Reference Guide to Pediatric Care, Neonatal Care: A Quick Reference Deck and the textbook, Neonatology for Primary Care.

Dr. Campbell, Program Director for the fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Director of the Division of Neonatology at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, conducts the Low Birth Weight Infant Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP). She focuses on perinatal care and health services delivery, psychosocial support interventions for mothers of premature babies, perinatal ethics and collaborative decision-making, outcomes for very low birth weight infants and newborn hearing screening. She is a co-chair of the Faculty Mentoring Work Group of the Education and Faculty Support Committee at Einstein and led a faculty development initiative within the Department of Pediatrics.A member of the National March of Dimes Bioethics Committee and NICU Family Support Project Advisory Group, Dr. Campbell also serves on the New York City and Bronx Infant Mortality Review Committees and is a co-chair of the Bronx Regional Perinatal Forum. She is a member of the Greater New York Hospital Association Perinatal Safety Collaborative Advisory Group and the National Quality Forum Perinatal Collaborative and the New York State Obstetric and Neonatal Quality Collaborative, Neonatology Expert Workgroup. Dr. Campbell also serves on the New York State Palliative Care Education and Training Council. Dr. Campbell is the recipient of the 2000 Bronx Perinatal Consortium Distinguished Clinical Care Award, the 2005 New York State Perinatal Association L. Stanley James Award and the 2009 National Perinatal Association Stan Graven Award. She has been recognized by Castle Connolly and the New York Magazine in their lists of Best Doctors.

Kathleen D. Asas, MD, MPH, is the Inpatient Clinical Informatics Lead at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She also serves as Medical Director for the CHAM 8 pediatric unit. Dr. Asas’s clinical focus is on improving care and multidisciplinary communication for hospitalized children and effective care transitions.In 2003, Dr. Asas received her Master of Public Health from Yale University School of Public Health with a special focus on microbial diseases. In 2007, she earned her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Asas completed her pediatric internship at Stonybrook University in 2008, followed by her pediatric residency at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in 2010.Dr. Asas’s research interests include clinical informatics and digital technology integration for pediatric care, education about electronic health records and data analytical tools and pediatric quality improvement and patient safety. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed publications.Dr. Asas is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a member of the AAP Council on Clinical Information Technology (COCIT) and a member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Dr. Asas has received the Teaching Star Commendation from Montefiore Einstein for multiple years.
