<p>Ivy Tam, MD, FAAP, is an Attending Physician and a Non-neonatal Emergency Transport Coordinator at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. She is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. </p><p>In 2009, Dr. Tam received her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Cornell University. <p>Dr. Shlomo Shinnar is a neurologist, pediatrician and epidemiologist. His expertise focuses on comprehensive epilepsy management, child neurology and epilepsy with a focus on long term studies&nbsp; the prognosis of childhood seizures disorders. He is also an experienced clinical trialist and is the co-director of the Einstein NeuroNEXT cener of Excellence for Clinical Trials in Neurology.<br /><br />Dr. Shinnar conducts research on a variety of topics relating to childhood seizures, including when to initiate and discontinue antiepileptic drug therapy, prognosis following a first seizure, and prognosis following discontinuation of medications in children with seizures.&nbsp;He is also interested in the comorbidities of epilepsy and its impact on chilren and families.&nbsp;He current studies focus on status epilepticus, a life-threatening condition of persistent continuous and unremitting brain seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes.&nbsp; He is also involved in research in autism, an increasingly common neurological condition in childhood.<br /><br />His current research focuses on the consequences of prolonged febrile seizures, the most common seizure seen in children and on the long term outcomes of childhood absence (petit-mal) seizures which are the most common form of epilepsy in children. He is also on the executive commitee of the recentlyfunded ESETT (Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial) trial which seeks to determine the optimal therapy for convulsive status epilepticus inchildren and adults when first line therapy with a benzodiazepine has failed.</p>
<p>Dr. Shinnar is the senior editor of the book <em>Childhood Seizures</em> and co-editor of the book <em>Febrile Seizures</em>. He has published over 185 original papers and over 125 reviews and chapters. He is the recipient of the prestigious Research Recognition Award of the American Epilepsy Society and the CURE&nbsp; research award. His continuing research on the Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Children (FEBSTAT) study was recently recognized with the prestigious Javits award by the NINDS.<br /><br /></p>

<p>David Kaufman, MD, an attending physician and Professor of Neurology and of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Einstein, concentrates on the neurologic aspects of psychiatric illness and movement disorders. He provides neurology consultations for in-patients and out-patients, serves as the attending on consultation and ward rounds, and supervises neurology clinics at Montefiore Einstein. He works closely with psychiatrists and, for botulinum treatment of certain dystopias, the neuromuscular group.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1964, Dr. Kaufman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1968. He pursued his postdoctoral training at Montefiore, completing his internal medicine internship and residency in 1971. In 1975, he completed the four-year neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine hospitals. He has been a steadfast member of Montefiore and Einstein communities ever since.</p><p>From his research interests, Dr. Kaufman has published clinical studies of central nervous system infections, heroin overdose-induced pulmonary edema, COVID&rsquo;s effect on Parkinson disease patients, and other topics. He has been a member of editorial boards for Internal Medicine Bulletin and Medical Meetings: Pearls &amp; Perspectives, and a consultant and reviewer for numerous medical journals. He teaches medical students in their neuroscience course, psychiatry and neurology residents, and psychiatrists preparing for their Board examinations. He has been a Visiting Professor at Ben Gurion University, Yale University, Pritzker/University of Chicago, and other American medical schools, and at U.S. Naval Medical Centers, as well as a frequent lecturer at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.</p><p>Dr. Kaufman innovated the long-standing, annual, national course, Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry for Psychiatrists, developed a noteworthy neuropsychiatry seminar and authored the book, <em>Kaufman&rsquo;s Clinical Neurology for Psychiatrists</em>, now in its 9th edition.</p><p>Dr. Kaufman is board certified in Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and the Movement Disorder Society. A devoted educator, Dr. Kaufman has received many accolades for his excellence in medical teaching, including induction into the Leo M. Davidoff Society in 1993, the American Academy of Neurology award in 2001 and the Montefiore Staff and Alumni Award in 2007.</p>

<p>Richard P. Gibralter, MD, is an attending physician, Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Director, Medical Student Education, Ophthalmology &amp; Visual Sciences and Associate Professor, Ophthalmology &amp; Visual Sciences at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Gibralter has decades of experience in managing some of the most complex eye conditions. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases of the anterior segment, including corneal diseases, cataract, and immune mediated diseases of the ocular surface.</p><p>After completing his Bachelor of Arts at Amherst College, Dr. Gibralter completed his medical education at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1976. He went on to the esteemed Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital for his ophthalmology training, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Gibralter later completed fellowships at both the New York Eye Bank for Sight Restoration and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in 1981.</p><p>Dr. Gibralter was the Founder and Co-Director of Cataract and Corneal Associates in Manhattan where he conducted the private practice of ophthalmology for nearly forty years.</p><p>Dr. Gibralter&rsquo;s research focuses on immune-mediated corneal diseases and surgical techniques of the anterior segment. He has shared his work through peer-reviewed journals, case reports, posters and lectures.</p><p>A leader in ophthalmic education and Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Gibralter has helped to train countless residents and fellows over the years at some of the most prestigious eye training programs in the country.
