Biography

<p>Ivy Tam, MD, FAAP, is an Attending Physician and a Non-neonatal Emergency Transport Coordinator at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. She is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. </p><p>In 2009, Dr. Tam received her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Cornell University. She then attended SUNY Upstate Medical University, where she received her Doctor of Medicine in 2013. Dr. Tam began her postgraduate training with a residency in pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine in 2018 at the University of California San Diego. </p><p>Dr. Tam&rsquo;s research aims to improve care and communication for patients with limited English proficiency, as well as standardizing pain practices for children. She has shared her work through presentations in academic forums and scientific meetings, and is currently in the process of being submitted for publication. </p><p>2017, Dr. Tam received the CARES Award from hospital staff at Rady Children&rsquo;s Hospital for her support during the medical director&rsquo;s absence. Dr. Tam is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. </p>

<p>Dr. Shlomo Shinnar is a neurologist, pediatrician and epidemiologist. His expertise focuses on comprehensive epilepsy management, child neurology and epilepsy with a focus on long term studies&nbsp; the prognosis of childhood seizures disorders. He is also an experienced clinical trialist and is the co-director of the Einstein NeuroNEXT cener of Excellence for Clinical Trials in Neurology.<br /><br />Dr. Shinnar conducts research on a variety of topics relating to childhood seizures, including when to initiate and discontinue antiepileptic drug therapy, prognosis following a first seizure, and prognosis following discontinuation of medications in children with seizures.&nbsp;He is also interested in the comorbidities of epilepsy and its impact on chilren and families.&nbsp;He current studies focus on status epilepticus, a life-threatening condition of persistent continuous and unremitting brain seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes.&nbsp; He is also involved in research in autism, an increasingly common neurological condition in childhood.<br /><br />His current research focuses on the consequences of prolonged febrile seizures, the most common seizure seen in children and on the long term outcomes of childhood absence (petit-mal) seizures which are the most common form of epilepsy in children. He is also on the executive commitee of the recentlyfunded ESETT (Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial) trial which seeks to determine the optimal therapy for convulsive status epilepticus inchildren and adults when first line therapy with a benzodiazepine has failed.</p>
<p>Dr. Shinnar is the senior editor of the book <em>Childhood Seizures</em> and co-editor of the book <em>Febrile Seizures</em>. He has published over 185 original papers and over 125 reviews and chapters. He is the recipient of the prestigious Research Recognition Award of the American Epilepsy Society and the CURE&nbsp; research award. His continuing research on the Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Children (FEBSTAT) study was recently recognized with the prestigious Javits award by the NINDS.<br /><br /></p>

<p>Jamie Rosenberg, MD, is a pediatric ophthalmologist and Professor, Ophthalmology and Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus is in the care of children and teenagers with eye diseases, as well as management of ocular misalignment in children and adults.</p><p>After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Harvard University, Dr Rosenberg pursued her medical education at Einstein, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2005. She completed her internal medicine internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in 2006, followed by a three-year ophthalmology residency at Einstein, completing it in 2009. She then pursued her pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, completing it in 2010.</p><p>Dr. Rosenberg&rsquo;s research focuses on innovations in and the advancement of medical student and resident education in ophthalmology. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, posters and regional, national and international presentations, She is a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the Journal of AAPOS (American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus).</p><p>Dr. Rosenberg is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Pavlovic earned her B.S. from Ramapo College of New Jersey where she double majored in Biology and Chemistry while on full academic scholarship.&nbsp; She completed her MD and PhD in Molecular Medicine at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine.&nbsp; She was an intern in internal medicine at St. Vincent&rsquo;s Hospital in New York City and a neurology resident at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, where she was also a Chief Resident. She subsequently continued her training as a fellow in Headache Medicine and Facial Pain at the Montefiore Headache Center.</p>
<p>Dr. Pavlovic is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. <p>Eric J. Mariuma, MD is an attending physician in the neurology department at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Mariuma practices general neurology and is highly involved in the education of medical students, interns and residents. Dr. Mariuma is the Chief of Neurology Clinic at Wakefield Hospital and he serves as a preceptor for neurology residents in the neurology clinic at Jacobi Medical Center. <p><span style="font-family: Arial;">David Myland Kaufman, Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, was graduated from the medical school of the University of Chicago and completed training in internal medicine and then neurology at Montefiore Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) hospitals.&nbsp; During his residency, Dr. Kaufman originated the nation-wide course, which he still directs, Clinical Neurology for Psychiatrists.&nbsp; More than 25,500 psychiatry residents and attendings have attended the course, which has served as the basis for his classic textbook, <em>Clinical Neurology for Psychiatrists</em>, (Elsevier) currently in its eighth edition and available in Italian, Japanese, and Spanish translations. He works closely with psychiatrists and, for botulinum treatment of certain dystopias, the neuromuscular group.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1964, Dr. Kaufman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1968. He pursued his postdoctoral training at Montefiore, completing his internal medicine internship and residency in 1971. In 1975, he completed the four-year neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine hospitals. <p>Dr. Howard Geyer is Director, Division of Movement Disorders, Montefiore, and Assistant Professor, Neurology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.&nbsp;He received his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.&nbsp;He was chief resident in Neurology at Montefiore, where he also completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology.&nbsp;He completed an additional fellowship in Movement Disorders at Beth Israel Medical Center.&nbsp;Dr. Geyer regularly lectures and contributes to book chapters and journal articles on a variety of neurologic topics.</p>
