<p>Allison M. Martin, MD, is an attending physician at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Microbiology and Immunology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Martin&rsquo;s clinical focus centers on pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Bryn Mawr College in 2001, Dr. Martin earned her Doctor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in 2007. She completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, followed by a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health in 2013. Following this, Dr. Martin completed an additional fellowship in pediatric neuro-oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2014.</p><p>Dr. Martin&rsquo;s research focuses on high-risk group 3 and refractory medulloblastoma. Her research program focuses on uncovering new ways to harness the immune system to treat this disease. Her work has been shared through numerous peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, case reports and invited talks and panels. She has also been principal investigator and co-investigator on several funded research projects and is a reviewer for <em>Cancers</em>.</p><p>Dr. Martin is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. She is a member of the Children&rsquo;s Oncology Group (COG), the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) and the Society of Immunotherapy and Cancer (SITC). In 2021, Dr. Martin received the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellows Teaching Award from the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein. She was named a &ldquo;Top Doctor&rdquo; by Castle Connolly in 2024.</p>

<p>Rishi Malhotra, MD, is Director of Neurocritical Care, Director of the Neuroscience ICU and Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship, as well as Associate Professor of Neurology, Medicine and Neurological Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. He provides neurology consultations for in-patients and out-patients, serves as the attending on consultation and ward rounds, and supervises neurology clinics at Montefiore Einstein. He works closely with psychiatrists and, for botulinum treatment of certain dystopias, the neuromuscular group.</p><p>After earning his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1964, Dr. Kaufman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1968. He pursued his postdoctoral training at Montefiore, completing his internal medicine internship and residency in 1971. In 1975, he completed the four-year neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine hospitals. <p>Dr. Karen Ballaban-Gil is Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics, the Director of the Child Neurology Residency Training Program and Director of Outpatient Child Neurology Services at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Union College and Cum Laude from Albany Medical College, in the 6 year combined B.S- M.D. program. Dr. Ballaban-Gil trained in general pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and trained in child neurology and clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She received board certifications in pediatrics, neurology with special competence in child neurology , clinical neurophysiology and in epilepsy.</p>
<p><br />Dr. Ballaban-Gil has a large clinical practice in child neurology, including the evaluation and treatment of children with epilepsy, headaches, sleep disorders, autism and other developmental disabilities. Her research interests include the relationship between epilepsy and language regression in youngsters with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, autism, and other developmental disorders of higher cognitive functioning. In addition, she runs the Ketogenic Diet program for the management of intractable epilepsy at the Montefiore Medical Center - Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Her publications include numerous papers on autism, epilepsy related language disorders, and the Ketogenic Diet.</p>

Dr. Ballaban-Gil has a large clinical practice in child neurology, including the evaluation and treatment of children with epilepsy, headaches, sleep disorders, autism and other developmental disabilities.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Science at Union College in 1984, Dr. Ballaban-Gil earned her Doctor of Medicine in 1986 at the Albany Medical College. She began her postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, completing two years as an intern and assistant resident in pediatrics before coming to Einstein, where she completed a residency in child neurology, followed by a fellowship in epilepsy and electrophysiology in 1991.</p><p>Dr. Ballaban-Gil&rsquo;s research interests include the relationship between epilepsy and language regression in youngsters with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, autism and other developmental disorders of higher cognitive functioning. Her publications include numerous papers on autism, epilepsy related language disorders and the Ketogenic Diet. She has shared her work through national and international meetings, and has been a peer reviewer for a variety of medical journals, including <em>Epilepsia</em> and <em>Cephalgia</em>.</p><p>Dr. Ballaban-Gil is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology with special competence in Child Neurology and with Certification in Epilepsy.</p>

<p>Phyllis Bieri, MD, is an attending physician at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Neurology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Bieri's clinical focus centers on the accurate diagnosis of neuromuscular disease through careful history, neurologic examination and electrodiagnostic tools such as electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction study (NCS) and neuromuscular ultrasound. She sees adults and pediatric patients referred to the EMG laboratory for consultation.</p><p>After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from Antioch College in 1982, Dr. Bieri earned her Doctor of Medicine at Ohio State University in 1988. She then attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completing an internal medicine internship in 1989 and her neurology residency in 1992, where she was Chief Resident in her final year. Following her final year of residency, Dr. Bieri completed an EMG/neuromuscular disease fellowship at the same institution.</p><p>Dr. Bieri's research is focused on diseases that present to the EMG laboratory, including hereditary and acquired peripheral neuropathies, disorders of the anterior horn cell, myopathies, muscular dystrophies and polyradiculopathies and entrapment neuropathies. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and abstracts.</p><p>Dr. Bieri is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neuromuscular Medicine and Neurology with added qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology. She is also certified in Electromyography by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Bieri is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In 1989, she received the Leo M. Davidoff Award for excellence in teaching.</p>
