<p>Natalia Vasquez Canizares, MD, MS, is an Attending Physician of Pediatric Rheumatology at the Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine.</p>Dr. Vasquez Canizares received her Doctor of Medicine at Universidad de La Sabana in Chia, Colombia, then completed medical internships at Hospital Universitario de La Samaritana in Bogota, Colombia, and Hospital Universitario Austral in Pilar, Argentina. She completed a residency in Pediatrics at Cooper University Hospital and did her Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at CHAM. <p>Anne Van Arsdale, MD, MSc, is an attending physician and Associate Professor, Genetics and Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology and Women&rsquo;s Health at Montefiore Einstein. She treats all gynecologic malignancies, with a focus on a specialized colposcopy clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of cervical dysplasias.</p><p>After receiving her Bachelor of Science at Georgetown University in 2001, Dr. Van Arsdale attended Columbia University, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2005. She came to Montefiore Einstein to begin her postdoctoral training with a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology. After completing her residency in 2009, she attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, England, earning her Master of Science in medical statistics. Dr. Van Arsdale then returned to Montefiore Einstein to pursue a three-year fellowship in gynecologic oncology, which she completed in 2016.</p><p>Dr. Van Arsdale&rsquo;s research follows her clinical focus on gynecologic malignancies. Her focus is translational research of HPV integration as a biomarker for progressive cervical dysplasia and cervical carcinoma. She is the current institutional principal investigator (PI) of the gynecologic tissue biorepository and the lead institutional PI for phase 2 and phase 3 trials for Inovio pharmaceuticals evaluating HPV therapeutic vaccination for the treatment of high grade cervical and vulvar dysplasia. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, abstracts and posters, and she is an ad hoc reviewer for several publications including <em>Frontiers Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology</em> and the <em>Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease</em>.</p><p>Dr. Van Arsdale is board certified and a member of several professional organizations including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Cancer Research. She has been the recipient of multiple internal and external award mechanisms, including the ME Strong Award from the Foundation of Women&rsquo;s Cancer, a Dew Point Scholar (Department of Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology and Women&rsquo;s Health), an American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Foundation (AAOGF) Scholar, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Early Surgeon Scientist Program (ESSP) Award and an NCI K08 award.</p>

<p>Dr. Ushay is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. </p><p>After obtaining a PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University, Dr. Ushay received his MD from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and completed a Pediatrics residency in the Montefiore-Jacobi-Einstein program. After serving as Chief Resident and a Fellow in Pediatric Pulmonology at Montefiore, he completed a Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center in 1993. He was a faculty member at NewYork-Presbyterian and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospitals from 1993 to 2005, and he served as Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program Director and Medical Director of the Pediatric Observation Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. </p><p>In 2005 Dr. Ushay became Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Unit in The Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Ushay is involved in increasing pediatric ICU surge capacity through the New York City Pediatric Disaster Coalition, serving on its Central Leadership Council and teaching the Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support Course. Through the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Dr. Ushay works on employing medical countermeasures safely for children in the event of chemical, biological or radiological disaster. Sponsored by Surgeons of Hope and Children&rsquo;s HeartLink, Dr. Ushay has worked as a cardiac intensivist in Cambodia, Africa, China and Nicaragua. </p>

<p>Gitit Tomer, MD, is Director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Tomer has been a member of the Montefiore team since 2009, with a clinical focus on inflammatory bowel disease, performance improvement and capsule endoscopy.</p><p>Dr. Tomer received her medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, in 1995. She completed her Pediatric internship and residency at New York University School of Medicine in 1998, and went on to complete her Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2001.</p><p>Dr. Tomer&rsquo;s focus on IBD, performance improvement and endoscopy extend to her research interests. She is the CHAM physician leader of ImproveCareNow, a national collaborative that champions improved care for children and youth with Crohn&rsquo;s disease and ulcerative colitis. Her research in pediatric IBD examines many facets, extending from the racial differences in initial presentation, early treatment and 1-year outcomes in pediatric Crohn&rsquo;s disease, to differences in satisfaction with work-life balance among pediatric gastroenterologists. Dr. Tomer&rsquo;s work has been published in a number of reviewed journals, books, review articles, and abstracts.</p><p>Dr. Tomer is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Gastroenterology. She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), and serves as the chair of the Professional Development Committee of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN).</p>

He has earned an international reputation as a leader in the treatment of a full range of complex childhood gastrointestinal and liver conditions including Crohn?s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, chronic abdominal pain and intestinal transplantation.--><p>John F. Thompson, MD, is Chief, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Thompson specializes in short bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, feeding disorder, and chronic abdominal pain. </p><p>Dr. Thompson graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a B.A. and M.S. in Chemistry. He was awarded his Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1977. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at Wyler's Children's Hospital, University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics in 1980, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Babies Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Thompson was Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for 15 years before he was recruited to CHAM in 2009.</p><p>Under Dr. Thompson's leadership, the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at CHAM has shown remarkable growth and is now one of the premier programs in the country with expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology and liver transplantation, therapeutic endoscopy, intestinal failure, celiac disease, aerodigestive and eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders. </p><p>Dr. Thompson is the director of the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program at CHAM. His research focuses on ways to improve the lives and outcomes of children who have intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome, with multiple active Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved studies. He also is the Principal Investigator in two multicentered international clinical trials examining the effectiveness of teduglutide for the treatment of short bowel syndrome in children</p>

<p>Ivy Tam, MD, FAAP, is an Attending Physician and a Non-neonatal Emergency Transport Coordinator at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore. She is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. </p><p>In 2009, Dr. Tam received her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Cornell University. She then attended SUNY Upstate Medical University, where she received her Doctor of Medicine in 2013. Dr. Tam began her postgraduate training with a residency in pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine in 2018 at the University of California San Diego. </p><p>Dr. Tam&rsquo;s research aims to improve care and communication for patients with limited English proficiency, as well as standardizing pain practices for children. She has shared her work through presentations in academic forums and scientific meetings, and is currently in the process of being submitted for publication. </p><p>2017, Dr. Tam received the CARES Award from hospital staff at Rady Children&rsquo;s Hospital for her support during the medical director&rsquo;s absence. <p>Adit Tal, MD, is an Attending Physician at Children&rsquo;s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Marrow and Blood Cell Transplantation at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining the Montefiore team, Dr. Tal&rsquo;s clinical focus has been the treatment of pediatric leukemia and lymphoma, and the supportive care of children with cancer.</p><p>Dr. Tal received her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University in 2008, followed by her Doctorate of Medicine at the Sackler School of Medicine. She began her postgraduate training in 2013 at CHAM and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, following her Pediatrics residency with a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship.</p><p>Building on her clinical practices, Dr. Tal&rsquo;s research focuses on novel therapeutic targets for advanced treatments in metastatic osteosarcoma. She is examining a signaling pathway crucial to bone development and differentiation, and targeting this pathway to treat osteosarcoma. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed articles.</p><p>Dr. Tal is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of many professional societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Children&rsquo;s Oncology Group, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
